How much weight did you lose before any one noticed?
My Start weight 384.5 currebt weight 325.6 Maybe it depends on the start weight? or your body shape? I have 1.1 pound to go to have lost 60 pounds. No one outside of family has noticed. I find that odd. I guess I was hoping for comments prior to surgery so I could say "Yeah I changed my diet and I exercise." I read on a forum once someone had lost 100 pounds before anyone noticed.
I lost 147 pounds and it took about 50-60 pounds before someone said anything about noticing. I also wore baggy clothes pre-op to hide my weight (LOL, right?) so it was more difficult to see my weight loss.
I also think sometimes that people are reluctant to say anything. They aren't sure or used to seeing yo-yo weight loss. They don't want to be offensive so don't mention it.
The important thing is that YOU know you've lost.

I started at 383... I would say at least 50-70lbs. Also if you are wearing baggy clothes they won't notice. Buy a pair of new pants and you will get compliments. I find I can make my tops work a little longer, but the pants, as soon as they get baggy, and a belt won't help... you need new ones. I have had good luck at Target and Walmart for inexpensive pants and jeans. I always buy them on the tight side, as within a couple of weeks they will be fitting fine.

I think it for sure depends on your start weight and shape and clothes, etc. It was probably 60-70 pounds before people who didn't know I had surgery started saying anything about my weight loss. Now, with even 5 pounds difference, people are commenting (in a somewhat surprised tone often) that I'm "still losing weight?!" Don't worry - it will be all people want to talk about for a while!
I've found that the heavier a person is the more weight has to be lost before people really notice. At 250 lbs. it always took a good 30 lbs. before anyone even noticed I was losing weight. And it can be deceiving because lots of people continue to wear the same clothes. People REALLY notice once you start wearing stuff that fits :-)
It took a loooooooooooooooooong time. My surgery date weight was 392. I don't think I started getting shocked faces until I was under 300.

I so remember this same exact experience. I started at 344 --- and it wasn't until I was nearly 80 pounds down that people (other than family who knew) began to notice. The advice you got about getting clothes that fit, is really good. I started at a size 26/28 -- and I swear, it took nearly 50 pounds to go down a size, too!! The weight between sizes is so much larger in the big sizes -- so, by the time I was in a 22 -- was also when other people started to notice. Now, 10 pounds usually means a size drop -- which blows my mind.

I think part of the reason people don't mention it is because they are being polite.

One of my neighbors (Mrs. Kravitz to everyone who knows her) saw me at a neighborhood meeting last Saturday. I'm trying to listen to the speaker (a police officer discussing a recent SWAT action in our hood), and she pops off with:
"You've lost a lot of weight. ARE YOU OKAY, DEAR?"
Now she knows damn well I've had WLS. She's a big gossip and I haven't been secretive about it in the least. In fact, I talked about it with her at our annual July 4th party last year. I replied:
"I had surgery" and then turned around to ignore her and listen to the speaker.
I dislike this old biddy intensely. When we first moved in, my husband had long hair down to the middle of his back and a full beard. He looked like a meth dealer biker, I'll grant you that, but he is 19 years sober. She started spreading rumors that she could smell marijuana coming from our backyard all the time. Since neither of us indulge, her comments were based on how we looked.
I have no idea how I got onto this subject in this thread. Please drive thru
