Alcohol after WLS

Ok, so I am in the minority here.  I have been drinking since about 5 months post-op.  I started at home and made sure my hubbie was with me.  I don't drink all the time but I always make sure someone is with me (I am purely a social drinker).  I also make sure to track every drop I drink.  I usually schedule my drinks in my daily calorie intake as not to overindulge.  I do find alcohol hits me harder since RNY but that just means I drink less.  Go ahead and tell me how bad I am but I drink responsibly and my liver labs have been fine.

Theres nothing wrong with having drinks as long as you know your limit and it does not become a problem... Sounds like you do it responsibly and don't drive. I have had friends with WLS get DUI's after drinking a half a shot, and they were responsible drinkers as well that is why I advocate against drinking and driving for all of us because even though we are responsible people there could be that one moment where life is changed forever. I believe that everyone is different when it comes to drinking and it is okay as long as your in control of it...

LIFE IS HARD, BUT GIVING UP HAS NO REWARDS!!!

Alcohol hits you fast and hard after WLS, but the effects do not last long.

When others have asked "When is it okay to drink alcohol after WLS?" my favorite reply is "When you want to stop losing weight."

I've had a partial glass or two of wine in the past year, but nothing for the first six months.  The priority of my weight loss takes precedence over my alcohol intake.

If I drink I make sure the alcohol is floating around in a milk based drink, like a toasted almond, thats what I had at a recent party and lots of ice.  It was fine.  I drink very rarely but as long as I have my drinks watered down with milk its fine.

Honest Question: What does the milk do for you? Coat your guts, against the alcohol? Or just act as a diluting agent, for the alcohol?

I****ers down the alcohol with a protein based product that makes it not hit me instantly like if I drank something straight up.  I always ask for it in a large full glass of ice, followed by the milk and then the alcohol and let it melt a little before drinking.  I had this at a party last week and two pieces of quesadilla and felt perfectly fine.  I never drink any alcohol straight up and the milk does seem to help.  The funny thing is I would never dream of drinking a glass of actual milk by itself as just the thought of it makes my stomach flip.

EQUAL parts whiskey to water? Please tell me you don't this very often. Sorry, the nurse in me just jumped out, and grabbed my keyboard.

Gina, I must be blocked by the person who is drinking whiskey.  Can you quote the comment so I can read it?  Thanks
