Runny Nose?

I did a search about this before I posted and most of what I came across was a runny nose as a full signal.

I have a runny nose almost all the time.  I have tissues all over the house, car and work.  It has been manageable but annoying but a few weeks ago I got a cold and even though I have been well for some time now my nose is running almost none stop.

I am assuming it is connected to the vagus nerve.  I had a sub total gastrectomy, basically my stomach was removed except for the pouch.

What was funny is that last week my boyfriend and I went out of town to visit his grandson and it barely ran at all then.  We didn't go that far and the climate was the same so I'm not sure what the difference was.  As soon as I got back in town it started running again.

Is there any thing I can take, like some kind of allergy medicine that won't make me drowsy?

I've never even had allergies before so this is all new to me.

My pulmonary doc has me take zyrtec, I use the generic, because it handles indoor and outdoor allergies and doesn't make me sleepy. Now I've had allergies forever so I may be rather immune to the sleepy factor but worth a try, it works well for me anyway. Good luck!

Sorry Tazz, the only time I had it was as a full signal. In that context, it was definitely related to the vagus nerve.

The solution would be much simpler if you were a guy -- just wear long sleeves all the time.

Grim, you made me laugh! You reminded me of my nephew and his three-year-old daughter. They were here the other day, and she wiped her nose on her daddy's shirt. He said "Stop that! You're got sleeves of your own!"

It sounds like it could be allergies. Far be it from me to dispense medical advice though.

I take Zyrtec from Feb-June; otherwise I'm a walking, talking, sneezing snot machine. It has never made me feel foggy or drowsy. I also piggy-back another OTC allergy med called Chlortrimiton ( or the store brand equivalent ) on top of it.

I have this too. Also thought it was full signal, even when I wasn't eating. Happens all day long.

Recently found out, this is also caused by acid reflux, after having over 1500.00 work of work up at an allergy center.

Do you have any other reflux symptoms? There is also"silent" reflux where you don't have the burning, etc.

Really? I have the near constant runny nose and definitely have acid issues. I never would have connected the two.

yes,the ENT told me to tell my gastroenterologist about the sniffing. Gastro knows,of course, about the reflux, but since I had never connected the two, never told him about the sniffing.

ENT said the gastro would have more suggestions for meds to help with acid related sniffing.

I see my new bariatric doctor next week and I'll mention it to him.  I also have an appointment soon with a gastroenterologist regarding my constipation and I'll talk to him, too.

I had horrible reflux before my revision and none since.  I was under the understanding it's because the acid producing part of my stomach, along with almost everything else, was removed.

I have had some episodes that felt like the reflux without the acid so.  Same symptoms except the burning.  So it may all be related.  I will definitely address this.  Thanks for the suggestion.
