Hi everyone! !!  Let me introduce myself, ,iam 32 yrs old, iam a mother of 3 amazing boys. .......Demitre our oldest, is 14, Xander our middle child is 4,, and Zaiden our youngest is 1....... I have no health problems to date,  i did have cancer back when i was 24,,,then i had the surgery in 2009  to remove a HUGE sarcoma tumor in my right arm,,,,, But i have been in remission for many years now,,, no health issues at all except being overweight.........Iam not scheduled for a surgery date yet,i Still have 4 months of the supervised diet. I was wondering if anyone could share any of their experiences with me. I plan to have the gastric bypass, but after reading some terrible experiences on other forums, iam second guessing my decision now.My surgeon is Dr luis reyes, who i have not yet met. I was also wondering if gastric bypass is the way to go instead of the lap band? ?? I have around 90 lbs to lose, , but they just told me either option is fine, ,and let me choose, ,,, any info would be greatly appreciated! !!!!!!!

I don't think anyone is going to tell you what surgery to have but have you or your Dr consider the VSG? Just wondering? I like the Vertical Sleeve because my stomach and digestive system still works the same but just with less traffic. There may be a reason your Dr did not consider this but for me I can only speak about the VSG. And although years ago I would of probably chosen the band over the bypass because I heard the band was reversible, once the VSG became available and I studied and considered it I made the informed choice to go with it. I'm sure you'll get some very good suggestions on this forum. Either way I wish you well!

ANYTHING is better than a LapBand, at least for most people. I suggest you join some of the FB 'Failed LapBand' groups and read about some folks' experience with the Band.

If you truly think restriction alone is all the help you need, I strongly recommend the VSG/Sleeve. If you think you need malabsorption, then consider the Duodenal Switch as well as the RNY/gastric bypass. Both will cause life-long malabsorption of certain vitamins and minerals. The malabsorption of calories lasts for about 18-24 months with the RNY, but is forever with the DS.

You need to research ALL the forms of WLS, decide which one is best for YOU, and then and ONLY then choose a surgeon based on his experience and track record in doing the surgery YOU want. No matter which surgery you choose, it's in your best interest to research your surgeon VERY thoroughly before committing your life to his hands.

If you've only heard terrible experiences regarding gastric bypass, you haven't done enough research. I have heard way more horror stories from the lap band than gastric bypass. With gastric bypass, the problems that arise are commonly caused by failing to follow your surgeon's instructions, but the lap band seems to fail regularly on its own. I am having gastric bypass, so I do not have experience with the lap band. I am just telling you what I have heard from people who have had it, and it failed for the people that I personally know who had it, leading to additional surgeries. There is a reason that gastric bypass is widely considered the gold standard of weight loss surgery. I personally would never consider the lap band, but I have not had cancer, which could factor into your decision.

Here is a good article that someone posted on the RNY forum: http://www.stonehearthnewsletters.com/obesity-chronic-disease-largely-biological-causes-cannot-cured-just-diet-exercise/medical-errors/

The lap band just has not been shown to have the same positive effects for obese people as gastric bypass.
