Some pre-surgical success to share!
That's a great question, and one I asked myself and discussed at length with my psychologist and surgical team. Ultimately, though, I've done this before. Two different times, at ages 18 and 23-24, I lost 80 lbs, stalled, then regained 100. I've seen my mom yo-yo diet her entire adult life, and I've been diabetic since age 23. I'm starting to stall a little now, still 40 lbs above my 2009 low and 60 lbs above my 2003 low. The future's pretty much laid out ahead of me, and I want to give myself the best chance at long-term success. Also, after my two major failures in the past, the main reason I got the motivation to try again now was because I knew I would eventually have a new tool in my arsenal. So I decided I still want to go for it, and I'm spending my preliminary 6 months trying to change WHAT and HOW I eat instead of just how much, finding coping mechanisms other than food, learning to pay attention to hunger and fullness, and trying to get in the best shape I can for as safe a surgery as possible. I can burn over 700 calories an hour with Dance Dance Revolution now if my knee holds up! :-D
