Some vegetarian/vegan resource links for WLS
This will be my path. If the surgeon doesn't approve I will have to find one who will. I have read that many WLS surgeons push meat protein which I don't want to eat. I will occasionally eat fish and seafood - crab legs, shrimp, lobster. I think I have deli running through my veins and simply don't want to give up lox or a good whitefish salad. I also eat eggs and cheese.

Where are you? Dr. Garth Davis is a huge advocate of veganism. He is in Houston and was my surgeon. I love him.
If you are not already, you should follow him on fb.

I follow Dr. Garth Davis on FB and have read some of his stuff.... He states he is vegan and says he advocates now a plant based diet, but he never really says what he recommends to his patients and how he handles the protein issue. Just wondering if you have info on that. curious. Thanks!

He recommends eating plant-based protein instead of animal protein. He also thinks many WLS folks eat a lot more protein than they really need.

There is also a Bariatric Physician on You Tube called Matthew Weiner from Michigan. He doesn't advocate vegan but he does start his patients on regular green smoothies a couple of days after surgery and he recommends a transition to a more plant based diet after the 3 month mark.

Yes, I've heard of Dr. Davis. I've been to his website. I'm in Phoenix, AZ. He recommends a plant need diet to his patients. He also suggests they try to lose weight with a plant based diet prior to surgery. I will have to look up the YouTube video. Thanks for letting me know.

I don't eat meat, haven't for nearly 30 years now. I do eat some dairy, though I am trying to cut back on that. And I occasionally eat local, free range eggs, but rarely.
