Vacationing post surgery

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone can give some insight into how long to wait to travel post-surgery.  This is beyond the 6 week recovery window that the doctors have recommended, but I'm thinking, when did you feel yourself enough to be able to travel?  I am away a lot for work, and starting to plan my summer and fall schedule so I need to take into consideration how long I will need to be able to do everything that I could before, and then hopefully take a vacation overseas.

Anything you can share would be most helpful.  Thanks!

If you have a laparoscopic procedure with no complications, 6 weeks should be enough.

You might want help with luggage and lifting, but that can be arranged.

Most people are back to their normal routine by6 weeks post op, with no complications.

Thanks!  It's hard to plan so far ahead but it's good to know that there's really no restrictions.

That's great to hear - did you have difficulty adjusting to foods there or did you find yourself just sticking with the basics?

I had zero issues.  I ate tartare at a fancy restaurant, chicken salad (no bread) at Panera, and some sort of burrito-type bowl at a Chipotle-like place.  Zero issues with eating.  I took protein shakes for breakfasts, since that's my preference.  And I took tuna pouches just in case.

Many bounce back quickly after WLS.  I was a very cheap date for anesthesia thought, and it was around 6 weeks before I started feeling more like myself.  If you can give it a few more weeks to ensure you can get the most enjoyment - do it!
