Questions about hormones after WLS

Hello everyone,

My question is about the release of hormones stored in our fat when we loose weight.  I know I have read about this happening to people loosing weight, and it can affect mood, but I am wondering does anyone have the experience of having hot flashes?  I went through menopause a few years ago, but now seem to be having them again, not nearly as bad but still uncomfortable.  I spoke to the surgical nurse for my surgeon, and was told this sometimes happens.  Has anyone here experienced this?  Thanks

Yeah, I got them too -- not right away because I suffered through being freezing-ass cold for the first 6-8 months.  But I occasionally get them now and I finished menopause before having surgery.

When you haven't had a period for an entire year.

I haven't had a period in 5 yrs and I'm 57. I'm getting concerned about this talk of hormonal dumping because Iam already treated for depression

Not to change the topic at hand but did you get an explanation as to why you were cold after surgery? I am currently experiencing the same thing from day one out of surgery. I had my VSG 10/30/14, just a little over 3 months out. Thanks!

Not a doctor but here's how it was explained to me:  in order to generate heat the body needs to burn calories.  It will burn carbs first, then protein, then fat.  After surgery you force the body to burn mostly protein and fat.  It takes a LOT more energy and it takes much longer for the body to burn protein and fat for heat.  Believe me, I've eaten simple carbs and it heats me right up - lol!

Pile on more clothes and turn up the heat - you'll need it :-)
