I have to loose 18lbs in a month!! Advice please
hey guys! So I recently saw my a nutritionist (not my typical nut) and she told me I have to loose 18lbs in a month due to my insurance?!?! Seriously don't know why they didn't tell me this earlier. Grrr. Anyways I'm on protein shakes for lunch, low fat sugar and carbs for my other 5 small meals a day. Exercising at least 3x day. Anyone have an additional advice??
I would call your insurance company and double-check that info because I think your NUT is off her nut. No insurance company that I've ever heard of REQUIRES you to lose a certain amount of weight by a certain date. Think about it - if you could lose 18 lbs. in one month why in the hell would you need WLS, right? Stupid...
My surgeon wanted me to lose a certain amount during the 6-month supervised weight loss period...but the insurance didn't give a damn as long as I didn't gain.
I echo that advice. To require you, without the benefit of surgery, to lose 18lbs in one month is too much. Check with the company
Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
It does sound crazy. Ask the insurance company, but also ask them for a copy of their bariatric surgery policy. I know mine just emailed me a link. Yes liquids. One meal a day protein and green veggies the most if you really need to lose 18lbs.

And, if it is true, then in the days before your weigh in, follow what wrestlers do with their water, etc., to make weight. You can google things like "wrestler make weight" and things like that, and find advice that can help with 3-4 bs in the last 2 days or so. It does involve usually a lot of water to flush things out, then very little drinking, and timing of water, food, etc. So it is not healthy to do regularly, but just as a last minute push to the finish.
First question - is your insurance requiring a certain period of time for a "supervised weight loss" ??? And if so, how long are you into that?
If not - do they have a specific requirement of how much you have to lose before you are approved for your surgery?
18# in a month is almost 5# a week - that's a lot.
Before going into panic mode, I would contact your insurance and find out. It may be as simple as a miscommunication between them and the nutritionist.
I had to lose a certain amount prior to surgery but they wouldn't even schedule my surgery until I reached a certain amount. Did they schedule your surgery prematurely? Losing that much weight in one month goes against anything I have ever read about healthy weight loss so I am thinking it is not accurate......
You had posted earlier that you are on a six month supervised diet for insurance approval. I will assume this 18 pounds is part of the total amount you were supposed to lose in the six months and now you are down to your last month of the diet before your surgery. If your insurance or doctor told you you have to lose a certain amount before surgery will be performed, it sounds like you have better get it done. I would do a liquid diet. I lost 20 in my 2 week pre-op diet using bariatric advantage shakes.
