New Vitamins?

I just can't take the chance. There isn't enough studies and from all the links including the ones I listed, as well as everything we have learned, Carbon Calciums are not what we need.  God knows I would love to slap a patch on everyday but there is O calcium citrate in them and the only long term studies done on carbon calcium proves we don't absorb it well.

again - the ONLY study on absorption are for ORAL - swallowing that freaking pill. This does not apply to a patch. We don't eat that patch.  we don't lick it. not even a bit. (at least we are not suppose to do that)

just because the calcium in those patches came originally from oysters - it does not mean it is calcium carbonate in the patch.  honestly - i don't know what type of chemical structure of calcium is in the patch.

I asked them and I am going to find more info about that.

I will keep you posted... you got me going on that one...

Let's work on finding out. Like you said the only study in on oral administration. Ther are no studies on the actual absorption rate transdermaly of carbon calcium. Other medications there are studies.

Let me know what you hear. It is a great idea if it can be proven to what extent what is absorbed. Why not  make the patches with citrate.

There was a link I posted on the DS board about the actual patches. Let me find it

found it. http://www.patchmd.com/Vitamin-D3-Calcium-Topical-Patch.html

it says calcium source is Oyster and one patch is 1000 mg or calcium carbonate.

Since it does not indicate what kind of calcium they use from the the shell on the patch we have to assume it is the carbon portion since oyster shell calcium is calcium carbonate

I think this would be ok for an unaltered person.  It's like walking into Walgreens and buying a bottle of Oscal even though you take that orally.  It wouldnt do that even if Oscal came in a patch form.

For the multivitamin patch, you'd have to wear FOUR of them to get enough vitamin A and it is missing several nutrients altogether so you'd have to take several other pills to get all those things.

I am confused. You must need more than I do because the one I'm looking at has more than what I need. Actually all of them do.

They contain the wrong types of many vitamins/minerals. just because they say they contain everything doesn't mean they do.

Oraly we need 200% of all vitamins minerals . With skin absorbtion, we need only 100%.. And different type of vitamins get absorbed differently oraly and by skin.

Btw i use them as my back up vitamins. Back up -when i travel, or when my travel had to be extended. Or when i can't keep anything down.

I am not convinced they can replace good multi and bunch of others i take...but i know i can absorb vit K (in cream) through skin better than orally... Or my hormons...(dermal patches, gel..)

With different form of delivery - our skin did not change because we had RNY - were only would need 100% or less of most vitamins. But A , D -and some others - we should be able to store them, so a few days of lower dosage may be ok.

Btw - most of us start  seeing real deficiencies with a year or longer post op. Our body has reserves.

Since there is no real data regarding the patches - i would not relay on them 100 % of the time long term. But for shorter duration, in special sytuation, they may be better than nothing.

The calcium that they use is oyster shell calcium which is a subpar calcium. We don't absorb it. I would figure out a way to take to take you vitamins. We all have to take them.
