Hi all,

I have been having a pretty hard time coming off liquids and harder time getting down vitamins. Has anyone tried PatchMD? It is just a vitamin patch that you wear for 12 hours.

Thanks in advance!

A lot of the things that OH advertises are really sketchy.  It's not a product I'd trust.

What vitamins are you trying?  Have you asked your surgeon about the patch things?

You might try crushing the chewables up in a few spoonfuls of yogurt, that helps some people to get them down in the beginning!

I actually saw them on another site. I am hardly keeping food down and having problems with it but it would be smart to call my PA. I looked up reviews but I had a few questions that I couldn't find answers to.

Are you talking with your surgeon about your inability to keep food down?

They said it was because I need to retrain how I eat (ie: too fast, too much, the wrong thing) so I am constantly having to start over with liquids. I tried liquid vitamins and the taste itself made me throw up. I even put them in water and couldn't do it. I have an appointment in a couple weeks and will talk more in depth with them then.

I use some of them, but i don't know if they are good or not. I know we absorb things through skin.

The patch does not have enough of everything, but imo - it is better than nothing.

Fortunately, the patch and nothing are not our only choices.

The are the only choices when i can take any vitamins or minerals by mouth for a few days.  Like i will be facing in 2 weeks.  (Ill have to be fasting, on all  clear liquids for 3+ days) Or when i get stomach flu.... Nothing will stay down for a couple of days.

They are also my back up when i travel.  Just in case something happens to my pre-pack vits.   Or when i am stuck in a city ir area more days than i planted to be.

I see your point..but at the same time ,  the absorption rate is for oral delivery. Just because it came fro oyster shell  it does not mean that the active calcium in the patch is actually calcium carbonate..

I asked that that question before and I think I was told it is elemental calcium. very different than the one we ingest orally.

same with D3 - it does not need to dry - because skin absorb it better if it is in oil form..

the difference how to take and how much we really absorb the calcium has to do with ORAL - ingestion, breaking down and then absorb and filtered through the skin.

I give you example with progesterone:

i take 200 mg pill every night.., I only can absorb and utilize app 0.5% or 1 gr of that (liver stops the rest) - if I to take a gel - rub it in my skin - I need no more than 1mg delivered that way to get the same saliva/ blood results.

the same things applies to vitamins and minerals. Doing that transdermally - we avoid the gut/liver / digestion / degradation issue.

Some drugs can't be taken orally - they would never pass gut / liver .. (i.e. bioidentical estrogen) Teh best delivery is transdermal or injection...or pellets inserted under teh skin for slow relase. Same thing with testosterone..   etc etc.
