Shrink the liver and reduce fat in the abdomen

Does anyone had (NAFL) fatty and enlarged liver before surgery? I was reading that most bariatric surgeons put their patients on a special pre-operative diet, usually 2 or 3 weeks just before surgery. The reason for the pre-operative diet is to shrink the liver and reduce fat in the abdomen. This helps during the procedure and makes it safer. If you were on this diet, was it difficult to follow it? I will appreciate your help.

This is all true. 99% of patients are put on the diet. It's usually a liquid protien, clear fluid and cutting the carbs out. It's vital that it shrinks the liver because nicking it during surgery could be pretty bad. It doesn't happen a lot. They have perfected the art with the diet preop.

I start this diet feb9 and I am not looking forward to 30 days of no regular food. For my surgeon it depends on your BMi how many weeks you have to do it I'm still in the 50's. So lucky me has 4 weeks. I've dropped 40+pounds so far and was very disappointed that isn't enough. The hardest part will be making meals for my family.
Do you really? Unless your family has only small children, they should be able to fend for themselves while you're on liquid diets.
For the few weeks before my liquid diet, I stuck to cooking foods that were freezable and that I could cook in bulk, so I was able to fill the freezer with quite a few days of meals. And, once those ran out, my family was able to get take away or prepare simple meals for themselves.

Yes! I too had to lose before I could have surgery, my surgeon wanted me to lose 50lbs. My surgery is scheduled for 2/18, I was told to do the liquid diet but not longer than two weeks at a time so two weeks liquid, then two weeks low calorie diet then alternate back and forth until I lose 50lbs. I started in Oct im currently 57lbs down, I'm sure I could of lost more but I had the holidays. Anyhow It wasn't super hard for me, I could have done better. But you can do it! Just think of the bigger picture. Good Luck
