A little help here please
On a stall again- been 3 weeks, haven't lost a pound but I know that usually during these stalls my body is adjusting and I do usually lose inches so I just keep working the program. Been injured, strained my right side and lower back so have not been doing resistance training (Dr's orders) but I am still doing cardio.
I'm starting to realize that I am able to eat more. I'm not really eating bad foods but the quantity and caloric intake has certainly increased. For instance today I had;
Breakfast-8:30: Boiled egg, 3 small Turkey sausage links. (160 cals) Lunch-1:00: 3 oz Eggplant Rollatini&1 cup diced watermelon. (250 Cals) Snack-2:30pm-1 Slice Cheddar cheese/about 15 peanuts (180 cals) Pre-work out Protein Shake-5:00pm, (160 cals). (will work out cardio-Elliptical about 1 hour) Dinner I will eat at 6:30pm: 6 Grilled Jumbo Shrimp w/ Olive, tomato and cucumber Salad (225 cals)
So that quickly it adds up to about 1,000 calories or more. I know I can cut back on Lunch but usually I would not eat Eggplant but a small salad with more protein-like grilled chicken, tuna or beans. And I ate the peanuts only because I felt weak. But I do record in Fitness Pal what I eat each day, don't know how accurate it is. At one time I could only eat about 600-800 calories but now on a good day (or bad day I guess) I can get it up to 1200, even 1400 calories. To me it does not appear like a lot of food but maybe that is my problem?. I usually put protein first and I try to watch my carbs. I am losing weight slowly with a few stalls in between and I feel great. Do I need to cut down more to perhaps about 800 calories. I did try before and admittedly I was weak during my work-outs.Should I change foods, etc? Or just keep on keeping on? Just want to make sure I am working the program properly? Thanks!
I don't see your surgery type or the date you had surgery on your OH blog.
I'm assuming you are less than one year post-op since you say you're at a stall again. Even injured, you're still doing cardio so that alone is a good thing. Even without your normal resistance training (how long?), with this stall your body is adjusting and losing inches as well.
Since you're now realizing that you can eat more, my guess is that you are at the 6-9 months post-op. I say that because around that period of time is when you are able to eat more than you were earlier post-op. We are supposed to be able to eat more than you were for the first few months after your WLS. Your pouch now is the way it will be as you live post-operatively. Continue eating as you state you are with protein first and limiting carbs (rarely simple carbs).
Not knowing your height/weight-BMI, I can't really say about what you're eating. With the cardio and resistance you have been doing, I don't think you should go down to 600-800 calories. Too low. Check with your doctor to see the range he/she would like you to stay in - 1,000 to 1,400 or more?
My Fitness Pal is a good app and widely used. I think you can feel comfortable with its accuracy from their database and foods you enter.
Don't let the stalls get to you. They are part of the WLS process. I think you're doing great.

I'm just over 5 months and I'm eating protein first and limiting simple carbs but admittedly it is not easy-sometimes I get that craving for them but for the most part walnuts, almonds, peanuts or soy bean nuts will curb it. I do have to work on limiting my fruits, I hear the sugar from them if not burned can store up as fat. And at one time I was eating a lot of fruits and/or using them in smoothies. I'm 6 feet at 270lbs and my BMI is about 36.7. Thanks for the encouraging response.
I would be more likely to eliminate the watermelon before the eggplant, and I would recommend a better protein punch in place of the sausage links. Sausage has additives (carbs) and less protein. Try instead, a piece of solid meat, like a slice of ham if you want meat with your egg.. or even cheese. Peanuts have carbs, but are also a good source of protein. Think protein and complex carbs (green veggies). Fruit, flours, sugars are the items to avoid.

Deana thanks. My NUT is not against fruit, just against HOW MUCH I was eating in MY diet. I was literally eating 5 fruits a day with the smoothies and so forth. Fruit alone was adding 300-400 calories to my daily nutritional intake. So what your NUT says appears to be balanced. I know everyone has a certain way they think but as long as the suggestions are in harmony and within the guidelines of what my WLS surgeon recommends-protein, fluids, veggies, little complex carbs to get include fruit. I appreciate the input and that is why I write to this forum, for reasonable, balanced suggestions because on my own I am extreme either way. In the end I sm the one responsible and accountable for my journey. Not my NUT, or your NUT, or any other posters. You have the right to input with out feeling shunned, as others have the right to agree or disagree in a spirit of trying to help each other. Admittedly info tend to weigh (no pun intended) on the side of those experienced in this WLS because they have walked the path I am walking. And at times my NUT just as my Fitness Pal does not take into account WLS itself. Thank you so much for your input, sounds reasonable.❤️
