Surgery coming up this year but now separated

I had to have someone with me the first night I was released from the hospital (I live alone) so I went to a friend's. I had stuff in the house to drink (shakes, sugar free pudding, popsicles, etc). I had low blood sugar and would get shaky so driving wasn't advisable for about three or so weeks. You children are old enough to help out and with your parents and sister nearby I expect you will be OK. I am sorry for the break up but often times, with life events such as this, you are able to look back after some time has passed and see it was good that things worked out the way they did. I hope that happens for you. You are setting a good example for your children in terms of being courageous to move forward with difficult decisions and to meet scary things head on. It is not easy. I remember how lost I felt after my divorce. My children were 12, 14 and 16 at the time. Do you have someone to talk to and get support from? I started seeing a therapist and it was so very helpful.

I had RNY, had someone stay over with me the first night, and had friends on call for the next few nights in case I needed it, but I didn't. Laid very low over the weekend, first few days. By one week out I was much better, but needed a nap the first few weeks. I live alone.

It sounds like you have all the help you need close by.  I only needed help getting in and out of bed for a couple of days.  I was okay for everything else.  Those who don't have help getting in/out of bed will sleep in a recliner for a couple of days until they are strong enough.
