Prozac (fluoxitine) capsules

Hi all. My gastric sleeve surgery is set for next Thursday, January 29th. The only medication I currently take is 40 mg Fluoxitine (Prozac) capsules. I am wondering if I should open the capsules and take them that way after the surgery, or do I need to contact my PCP for a liquid form (if one is available)? Thanks!

You can ask your pharmacist as well, but no, I did not have to open mine. I took them regularly.

I fight badgers with spoons.

My Dr. required all of my meds to be liquids for 2 months following surgery. Check with your doctor. I used the liquid for 2 months but was glad to get back on capsules. Also the 20mg capsules are smaller than the 40 mg. Maybe they could switch to them at first for you too!!

Jennifer do your meds work  the same as b4 the surgery, so afraid mine will stop working, taking Lexapro, klonopin, Seroquel for sleep

I am having RNY surgery next Monday. I take quite a bit of medication. The only thing I was told to do differently was open my Effexor and crush my Welbutrin and put it into food. Also I have to take Immediate Release Seroquel instead of Extended Release. They said that all of my medication may have to be adjusted as absorption is different. Just make sure that you are monitored closely by your doctor for the medications that you take.
