Am I on track with my loss?

Hi Friends!

I had RNY on Dec 17, 2014.  I lost 11lbs before surgery and in the last 4 weeks another 17lbs.  My question is this - I weigh every day (I know I probably need to break this habit) and there will be a week were I lose nothing or even gain a few and then the next week I get on and I am down a nice amount.  I am not expecting miracles at all but I do see lots of posts of people coming up on their 1 year surgery anniversary date and they are down 100lbs+.  Now I only had 101 to lose total but I am losing faith I will get there.  I am following my program, walking 30mins every day and am hoping the weight will really start moving as I recover down the road but thinking of being down to goal by next December seems like a long shot.  Am I being unreasonable?

Yes you are being unreasonable only in your loss of faith.

You are doing wonderfully.

I lost 18 lbs pre-op and 22 lbs in the first month after surgery.  I started heavier and had more to lose which means that I would be expected to lose more quickly -- yet, our losses are very close in the first 30 days.

In 12 months, I lost 175 pounds.  Your goal of losing 100 pounds in one year is completely doable.

Thank you so much!  My faith does falter at times.  Just feel like I am climbing up a huge mountain.  Thank you for the reminder!!!!

You are doing great!

Yes, you need to break the habit of weighing yourself.  It will make you crazy.  Once a day is too often.  Stop the habit now and have faith in yourself and your surgery.  Continue to do what you're doing by following the program and walking and you'll lose as you should.  Just think, this time next year how different it will be for you.

It is hard not to compare or have expectations of how much you should lose and by when.  It is fine to have a goal of losing but don't put pressure on yourself if it will be by your one year anniversary.  Again, easy to say and hard to do but try not to compare yourself and your weight loss with anyone else.

Way to go on your weight loss so far....in just a little over a month.

I think you are being unreasonable by feeling like you'll fail if you don't lose x amount of weight in y amount of time.  Stick with the plan, stay dedicated, and you'll reach your goal.  So what if it takes 2 years?  Or 4?  You'll get there if you stick with it.

It's only been a month, don't lose faith now! You're making lifestyle changes that will last you the rest of your life, does it matter if you lose it all in a year? You can lose it, but don't put so much pressure on yourself, follow your drs plan & the weight will come off.

Stop the daily weighing, especially if you're going to obsess over the numbers. The scale will drive you crazy!

I only lost 14lbs my first month and I had 200lbs to lose. Everyone is different. As long as you are sticking to plan it will happen. In the everyone is different category, for me I feel it helps me to stay on track by weighing myself everyday. I am not obsessive about it, I don't weigh myself 3x a day, and I don't freak out if I am up a little. I record my weight once a week on Wednesdays. I set mini-goals along the way. This is a process of developing good habits and trying to figure out what is going to work for you long term. I was sure in the beginning that I was the only one this wasn't going to work for.

I tend to feel like I'm just hangin out, hovering around, then I'll lose 3, then hang around, then lose 3. Yet my doc reminded me I'm down 44% of my excess weight and said I'm ahead of the curve, consistently!  It can be disconcerting to look at some of these tickers where people claim to have lost 75 lbs in a month, but my doc assures me I'm doing great. And so are you!!!  We've got this!!!

Thank you so much for the reminder and good thoughts!  Sometimes I can be too hard on myself.   Appreciate the encouragement more than words can say!!!

Large weight loss in the beginning gives us HIGH expectations! I come up on 5 months on Tuesday (1/26/15) and  lost a LOT of weight in the first 3 months and thought that by now I would be 25 lbs lower than what I am now. The last two months have not only been slow but in one 2 week period I gained  2 or 3 pounds. My Dr was not concerned about it-saying that the body constantly adapts and our metabolism does slow down. So I just keep plugging away enjoying exercise and eating properly. I know that eventually more weight HAS to come off as long as I work the program. So hang in there! Isn't this forum great? So much knowledge and experience!
