Menopause
I was 4 years post menopause when I had RNY surgery.
I have lost and maintained a 197 pound weight loss for the last 5 years.
I actually can eat more calories now than before menopause! I eat 1800 calories a day to maintain my weight and have not done a formal exercise program in all these years.
Since completing knee replacement surgery on both knees (7/2014 & 11/2014), I hope to start a regular exercise program by 3/2015 for general all over health benefits.
I have gone through menopause, and had the surgery because I couldn't lose weight even when I was being 'good'. I just had my 6 month surgiversary yesterday. I lost 25lbs pre-op and 90 post-op. So I think I am doing well. I still have a lot to lose but I am half way there. I was worried the first month because I only lost 14lbs...and had gone into a 3 1/2 week stall... but things turned around.

I was post-menopausal when I had the surgery almost two years ago. You can look at my stats below. I don't think my loss was "slow" at all even when compared to how I lost weight before menopause.
What impacts your weight-loss post-op is what you choose to put in your mouth every day. Pretty much it. Lots of people want to claim slow metabolism or think they don't exercise enough or blame it on menopause. Take the tips from other successful post-ops, do what they do and you will have good results.

I had my RNY in May and my hysterectomy (total lap) in August of the same year ( CA) it did not slow my weight loss. I. 46 and halfway through the second summer I was having horrible hot flashes so I am taking a very low dose estrogen patch, and use a LOT of sugar free popsicles as a hydration source. Doc did a lot of tests to make sure most of the risk was low on the patch. The kind of cancer I have (uterine) can be triggered by too much estrogen, which feeds on fat. This is indeed a life saver ing surgery. But to the OP, right after the hysterectomy, I had a plateau for about a month. I figure I just got a chance to practice the long term maintenance phase a bit early. Worst part is I can't remember the most basic stuff. There is a forum called hystersistersdotcom that was a big huge help. They have a whole section on menopause, just by itself. Best! :-)
