Menopause

I have noticed that I gain weight more easily since menopause (I am unable to take any HRT), and that those few pounds are a bit harder to get off (I am currently trying to get a few pounds back off after a knee replacement), but that just means that I have to be more diligent about making healthy food choices.

Menopause is NOT an automatic sentence to excess weight; it is just another challenge we face.  Don't let it be an excuse!

I'm hoping my HRT will make a difference.  Honestly, one of my wishes is that post surgery I will not need them anymore.  I'm hoping some of my hot flashes are from being over weight!

I am one year post op and my hot flashes have gotten worse. I was already in menopause before surgery but my hot flashes weren't that bad. Now I can not sleep through the night. I wake up several times every night even if I take a sleeping pill!

I am going to the doctor to see if I should get on HRT. It's not that good for me because I have a family history of breast cancer. But they say bioidentical hormones are safer. We'll see.

Did your hot flashes get better after HRT?

I was in menopause and lost 140 lbs in one year with RNY. Sure my metabolism isn't that of a younger women but it has never stopped me from losing weight.

See that's the thing, my metabolism is so low I have no energy to do anything anymore but perhaps that has more to do with this excess weight I'm carrying around.

I would bet that MOST of the lethargy is from the excess weight not your metabolism/thyroid levels.  Are you taking any kind of thyoid medication like Synthroid?

No, I've had my numbers checked, problems in that department.  I almost wish there were!

I am glad you posted this. I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago I was 322 pounds. I had RNY in October of 2013. Since then I am down almost 140 pounds. I am 47 years old and I am post menopause. I have about 25 pounds to lose and it is coming off slower than it was before. But I think I need to get my ass in gear and exercise more. I don't think I can blame menopause on the slow down of my weight loss.

I have been blaming menopause for most things including weight again.  Now I see its not going to make much of a difference though its still hard to wrap my brain around low metabolism verse a high metabolism
