Hey guys, I had my surgery december 10th,2014 and I am almost 6 weeks post-op. I was wondering anyone has trouble getting down food?? I probably current eat maybe 3 tablespoons and get super full. Then I don't have an appetite for the rest of the day. water also makes me feel super bloated. I have to force myself to eat more than 1 time per day. I have a very busy and active job where at ties I barely have a chance to eat a few goldfish crackers. I am getting my fluids but eating is so hard, not to mention a lot of things make me vomit. A lot of trial and error going on for mr. Anyone have any advice?? Is this normal??? Protein shakes make me gag and I can barely get down a few  sips...

Hello there, I had my vetrical sleeve surgery on 12/11/14 and am experiencing similar symptoms, I wake up and feel like I should eat something and have some greek yogurt and then don't think about eating again until late afternoon... Not that I am hungry just preparing dinner for everyone it occurs to me to eat and usually I feel really full after a few bites... I have also had to start taking nexium for acid reflux.... I just started to drink atkins protein drinks to try to get my 60 grams of protein but even that is slow going.

Please put your surgery TYPe and DATE on your profile. Once you do, this info will show up in the upper right corner of each post you make. This info is necessary for us to give you advice that's relevant to YOUR situation.

At 6 weeks post-op, it's pretty normal to not have much appetite, and it's not really necessary that you EAt all that much. However, it is VITAL that you get in a minimum of 64 ounces of fluid each and EVERY day. Are you? (Being dehydrated makes eating even less appealing.)

STOP EATING GOLDFISH CRACKERS, or any other kind of crackers, for that matter. Right now, you need to eat nothing BUT protein until you can reliably eat a minimum of 6 grams each and every day. There are 'essential amino acids' (the building blocks of protein), and 'essential fatty acids', but there are NO 'essential carbohydrates'.

It doesn't matter how busy or active your job is---you chose to have a surgery that will always and forever affect your nutritional status. MAKE TIME to eat, because it truly is a matter of life and death.  No matter what they say, you ARE replaceable at your job. If you allow yourself to get so sick that you can't work, or, god forbid, DIE, someone will take up the slack. Don't let it come to that. PUT YOURSELF FIRST.

ok thanks I will fix my profile. I have stopped the crackers. Greek yogurt seems to be the winner for getting my protein. I have been really good about getting my fluids. You are right about work. I talked to my boss and they are going give me little breaks. What about the nausea??? is that normal?

I got nausea on and off in the beginning. I never really knew why I had it, but it did stop. I know some people get it from lack of fluids, but I was always pretty good on my liquids too.
