PLEASE HELP/ADIPEX-P
I had my surgery done almost 5 years ago. Pre-op weight was 326lbs. I hit my goal weight 2 years ago which was 135 but decided I could afford to lose another 10lbs. So I have maintained my weight of 125lbs for over a year now. I have poly cystic ovaries and I am still having trouble finding a birthcontrol (pill form) that regulates my period. In October my gyno suggested the Depo for the first time. I had my first shot in Oct & my second one in Dec. I have never gained back any weight since I have had my surgery nor have I ever had any weight gain with any forms of birth control until now. I haven't changed my calories intakes or diet or my exercise routine in fact after I noticed weight gain I went even healthier (If that's even possible) and increased my cardio and I haven't lost a pound. Since I have been on the depo I have gained 20lbs. I am VERY upset by this! I know some people say they gain back 20 to 50lbs but I have and make a conscious effort NOT to be that group that does. My family physician suggested ADIPEX-P. I just started taking it today with no side effects. HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THIS AMOUNT OF WEIGHT GAIN WITH THE DEPO SHOT? ALSO HAS ANYONE TRIED ADIPIX-P (POST OP) AND HAS IT HELPED ETC? ANY FEED BACK ON EITHER QUESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!! THANKS!!!!! :)
You may want to get off the shot if you gained that much, I was on it years ago to control my period as well but I gained so much weight. I got off of it and my gyn decided to go with partial hysterectomy. Everyone I knew got the shot gained weight from it and when they got off the shot some lost weight and some didn't. I was one that didn't which cause to me to decide to get the bypass surgery.
I'm not staying on the shot. I just received my second one in Dec and not getting a third in three months. I just assumed it could cause a little weight gain like most do... 5lbs. I didn't find out until recently that the shot does cause an average of 15 -20lbs weight gain by my family physician. Thank you for the reply.
I would stay away from adipex that just a legal form of speed. I am a pharmacy technician and most people are side effect free at first but later develope heart arrithmias. Depo will make you gain weight no matter if you had surgery or not. The depo works by tricking your body into thinking you are already pregnant by elevated hormone levels. With high hormone levels you can expect some weight gain, mood swings, and even some cravings. Maybe try another b control method like an IUD, bonus is it last for up to 5years.
I'm not a woman so I cant help with the birth control but I wouldnt take the adipex. I took it a few years ago and while it works at first after a while it stops working and had a massive rebound from it and ended gaining back more than I lost which I hear is common
There is no reason for you to be taking diet pills. The cause of your weight gain is staring you right in the face. Depo is well-known to cause weight gain...I should know because I used to work in a family planning clinic and it was the BIGGEST complaint from women and the number one reason for them going off of it.
You may want to try the Mirena IUD to control your periods. Most women experience much lighter periods and will completely skip some months. And it lasts for at least 5 years before it needs to be replaced.

I have poly-cystic ovaries and have had highly irregular periods for as long as I can remember. I went like 2 years without a period and then would go a year with long or short periods, heavy and then light. There was no consistency. Before I had my VSG in October I hadn't had a period in a year. I was not previously on BC but after my surgery I have had two normal periods. My gyno said that my hormones have regulated and the PCOS has somewhat subsided. I had the same concerns about weight gain especially since I am still losing weight. My gyno suggested Nexplanon, which is the implant, since I was looking for a long term BC without having to worry about taking another pill. I already have enough pills to worry about post-surgery. I also did not want to have ANY risk of pregnancy. My gyno said there is no evidence to show that the implant causes a normal side-effect of weight gain, but the shot does. He stated the shot (depo) has been proven to show weight gain on average between 10 and 20lbs. I just had the implant inserted on Tuesday so I cant attest to the truth it doesn't cause weight gain. However, I will share my experiences in a couple of months and let you know how I do on it. Definitely get off the shot if you are uncomfortable with it. Look into the implant which lasts 3 years or an UID which could last 5 or 8 depending on the type. Sorry I couldn't offer more experience on the implant, but I definitely understand your concern over the shot. Stay off the adipex. Concentrate on choosing another BC and when you get the right one, you should be able to get that extra weight off by staying in your consistent healthy lifestyle. Hope some of this helps. I'll let you know in a couple of months how it is working.
