EXTREMELY dry skin!
Hey everyone! So I am barely a month postop and my entire body is so dried out. My face, hands, arms, stomach, and legs. It then makes me so itchy and I scratch a lot! I either draw blood or make my skin flake like it's snowing. I put lotion on every morning and after work. I also am constantly drinking water throughout the day. I never had this problem before surgery.
I was wondering if anyone knows why my skin is so dried out and if there are any remedies. Thanks in advance.
Keep up with your hydration! I also get really bad dry skin in the winter and I've been using coconut oil as an after-shower moisturizer. It's solid, but melts super easy with rubbing your hands together. It goes on really nice and quickly soaks into damp skin. It is a little bit greasy, but that goes away after a few minutes. Since I've been using it, my itchiness is almost non-existent and so are the flakes. :D

My skin becomes dry and itchy during the winter. All you can do is moisturize, moisturize and then moisturize again.
I use this as I come out of the shower and am still wet:

My surgeons nurse told me to use Vitamin E , helps with dry skin.. It has helped some. I also am taking Plavix which has made my skin super dry also. I am thinking the sun dosent like me either while on this medication. Drying my skin real bad.Maybe you would like to try a higher dose of Vitamin E orally and also use some On your skin instead of lotion?. Hope either helps for you, I know the feeling.. I guess I will have to avoid the sun. I am aging real bad.. My mind acts like a young woman..

In addition to moisturizing, it will get better once you add some healthy fats back into your diet. I went through a very dry and flaky period as well. I like the Kiss My Face lotions available at Fred Meyer and probably health food stores. They are not overly scented.

My skin is super dry and itchy this winter - it's because I'm not getting enough fat in my diet. And I feel like I'm adding as much fat as I can. Blah.

Putting a filter on my shower head, to remove most chlorine from water, really helped a lot. I also try to use good quality natural soap - shower gel.
I can see and feel a difference when i travel. No filter in hotels.

I'm definitely having that problem also. I really hate using lotion, but I have to this winter. My daughter has eczema, and uses the cream by Aveno for eczema, so I've been using that also. It works pretty well. I'm thinking of adding in a fish oil a day. We give them to our dogs, and it helps their dry skin.
I've had to do a lot of work outside this winter (yay arctic blast!). My hands have really taken a beating, to the point of cracking and bleeding, especially on my thumbs. I saw a commercial for this stuff called Working Hands (http://okeeffescompany.com/), which I found at a local hardware store, and it actually works pretty well.
I usually like winter a lot, but this year, I'm ready for spring!
