PPI = proton pump inhibitor. A med that shuts down the acid-producing pumps.  I take Protonix.

You'd have to check with your pharmacist.  I have no problems with the meds I take.

Reflux is quite common with sleeve, but a lucky few have had their GERD resolved with their weight loss.  Many surgeons recommend RNY for those who suffer pre-op, as it's known to cure it.

Some PPIs do interact with other drugs. I am on prescription prevacid and it interracts with some of my heart meds, my warfarin and some antibiotics. My docs don't seem too concerned about it, they are able to adjust the dosages.

Pre-op, I had such terrible reflux that most nights I slept sitting up. I chose the Duodenal Switch, which has a Sleeved stomach, but some surgeons, mine included, give DSers a slightly larger Sleeve than for those with just a Sleeve. It's been over 11 years now, and I've had ZERO reflux.

Your mileage may vary.

what do you mean a larger sleeve?

The Sleeve s is the stomach part of the Duodenal Switch. Many years ago, some surgeons would do just the stomach part on their DS patients who were too sick to withstand a long time in surgery. The goal was for them to do the stomach part, lose some weight, get healthier, then come back and get the intestinal part done. Some people had such good success with just the Sleeve that they elected not to get the intestinal part done, so the stand-alone Sleeve was born.

But as the Sleeve became more and more popular, and there were studies with long-term results, it was noticed that a significant per centage of Sleevers were having trouble with regain a few years post-op. In response to that, surgeons started making Sleeves really, really SMALL---and people started developing reflux.

According to my surgical notes, my Sleeve was made to hold four ounces. I think the average Sleeve today is made to hold no more than an ounce or two. I believe that my larger Sleeve is the reason that it cured my reflux, rather than making it worse.
