Who's had a Mini-Gastric Bypass?

I'm scheduled for a Mini-Gastric Bypass in March.  I'd be interested in talking with those who've had the procedure done, especially those 1+ years out.

How about those of you looked into an MGB but decided on a different procedure - what were the influencing factors to your decision?

Is anyone planning to have an MGB done soon?  What made you select this procedure over others?

Very, very few people have those anymore since there are far better, safer and more effective surgeries now.

Actually, I know a number of people who have had an MGB in the last several years.  After talking with a couple of them (I work with two of them), I started researching the procedure for myself.

Both short and long term (> 10 years) studies find the MGB to have results exceeding either the RNY or the Sleeve, and find it to be a considerably safer procedure as well.  Per the studies on record with the NIH, the short term and long term weight loss results are greater with an MGB.  An MGB has a greater effect on GERD than other surgeries, and exceeds their effects on diabetes.  In addition, it's a much less complicated procedure than an RNY and results in significantly fewer complications.

Here are just a few of the studies published online.  There are many, many more for anyone who cares to read them.

I understand many surgeons refused to perform a much older version of the MGB due to dangerous side effects.  However, the technique has evolved, reducing or eliminating problems previously seen with this surgery, and it is quickly growing in popularity worldwide.

Can I ask why YOU selected the mini-bypass rather than a regular RNY or a sleeve? I am genuinely curious since so few surgeons even do it.

p.s. You might post this on the forum for the mini bypass... but ai don't know if it has any traffic...

After speaking with a couple of people who had MGB's a few years ago and have had excellent results, I began researching the various bariatric surgeries to see which would work best for me.

There have been a number of studies published on the MGB in recent years, including long term studies > 10 years.  The results of these studies are impressive, to say the least.  I asked my Internist to look into the MGB and see if she felt it was an appropriate procedure for me.  She gave it her approval.

This article does a good job of summarizing the study results that have been posted about the MGB.  If you're really interested in learning more about the procedure, google the topic and read through the numerous reports on the procedure's results.
