Last night my college-aged daughter went to a workshop sponsored by a women's group she is a part of. The presenters at this meeting were two sisters with PhD's in media and body image. My daughter was very impressed at their presentation, and shared with me this link to the website these women have set up.

I would really love to hear what other OH members think of this site and the ideas it offers--and the general cultural issues it raises.
The site also taps in to the current cultural discussions about shame, written about by Brene Brown. (You can see Brene Brown speaking on shame in Ted Talks, BTW: http://www.ted.com/talks/brene_brown_on_vulnerability?langua ge=en and http://www.ted.com/talks/brene_brown_listening_to_shame?lang uage=en)
Those of us on this OH site--we have almost all pursued WLS--of course we have reasons beyond appearance for losing weight. But we also know how much damage is being done by our culture's over-emphasis on physical appearance.
Would it have helped us as we were growing up to have more awareness of the negative messages in the media and our culture? Would it have helped us, not just in how we feel about ourselves, but also in our health? How do the media messages continue to trouble us even after we lose our excess weight?
