keeping wls private
Thank you for your support! I feel guilty keeping it a secret and I do have concern about not telling people and then having them find out some how. . . I am just so shy and do not like being in the public eye and I know the surgury would bring so may questions.
To answer your question, I do not qualify for insurance as my BMI is not high enough and I do not have any comorbidities. So I will be self pay. I have lost the weight before, but have always gained it back. It is time for a more perminant solution.
:)
I'm the opposite, I'm telling people if they ask. I'm so happy I did especially at work. Now my coworkers are very careful what they put out in the kitchen. They are so supportive since I came out and told them. If I had pictures, I'd probably share those too! Sorry, thats just me. If you want to keep it private, just tell people your dieting. I have a friend who's on a Kaiser liquid diet. You do and say what is comfortable for you.
I too am keeping my WLS a secret at work and from most others except my family. I am not comfortable lying so when questioned about my upcoming surgical leave I just say that they will be taking me apart and putting me back together. 😊 I think most people think it's 'women's surgery' and I don't correct them. I intend to respond as other posts have suggested and letting people know that I have changes my eating habits to be healthier.
I haven't decided yet who I am going to tell. My plan right now is to tell my supervisor that I am having surgery and leave it at that. I guess my main reason for doing that is I am worried that my supervisor will see it as selfish that I am taking time off of work to have elective surgery, rather than viewing WLS as a medically necessary procedure, which I truly think for me it is.
As far as in my personal life, my husband already knows and is very supportive, as well as my parents. I haven't decided whether or not I will tell any of my friends, because my closest friends I know through work.
So, I guess I haven't really decided what I am going to do. I'm still at least a few months out from surgery, so I have some time to figure it out.

I f you have vacation time use it. Don't tell your superviser anything. Put in your request for time off, get it approved and don't tell anyone. ppl talk, even in HR, and supervisors are the worst, having been one, they talk about everything to other supervisors.
Okay, I understand the NOYB defence, but you're the wife of a pastor, so you must be very careful. Your husband is the pastor, but you are his partner, and the congregation holds you on a pedestal, too. There will be little privacy around you losing weight. It's one thing for the "don't ask, don't tell" stance, but if someone asks, you MUST come clean. The last thing you want your congregation to start flitting about is that you're a liar....and they will if you are the least bit elusive and it will hurt your husband's credibility, too.
You definitely have a right to privacy, however you must keep this all in mind.
