I'm getting close to surgery, and found out I will need an arterial gasses blood tests at the two week pre-op. I've had those before and they had a really hard time getting the artery ( 4 tries once, and 7 tries another time). Any suggestions on how I can make this test less painful and difficult? It is scaring me MUCH more than the surgery.

I suggest letting them know that you have had difficulty having them in the past. I informed the hospital staff that I was very difficult to do a ABG on before and they went out of their way to find someone who had a really good track record with phlebotomy and giving ABGs. The person who did it was awesome, it was no worse than regular blood work. There is no guarantee that they will be able to do the same wherever you go, but it doesn't hurt to mention it. Good luck!

They just hurt, you can handle it though. Just breathe and get it done. You are having major abdominal surgery. This will be a distant memory. Don't stress

Hi highdesert i second haL's post. Just inform them that you've had troubles in the past and hopefully they will get an expert in to do it for you and it will get done the 1st time with no troubles. I am sending positive thoughts your way. xx
