Do protein shakes give anyone else "stomach issues?"
I'm trying to get back on track and consuming more protein, but every time I've had a protein shake, it gives me gas and sometimes diarrhea. I don't know if it's the artificial sweeteners, the milk proteins, or some other ingredient that bothers my stomach.

What are you mixing your shakes with?
You might want to try other proteins - I know of egg, pea, and hemp off the top of my head. If you're mixing with milk, switch to unsweetened almond milk instead. And there are companies, like Optimum Nutrition, that make natural protein powders without the artificial sweeteners.
I'd try changing one of these things for a week and see if you have a change. Then change another thing next week. Etc.

I'm extremely sensitive to the taste of artificial sweeteners, and the only shake I've been able to really tolerate the taste of is the Atkins RTD shakes. They're not amazing, but they're a better flavor than a lot that I've tried.

I have had huge problems with protein shakes. I try never to buy a quantity unless I have been able to try them first. Gas and Diarrhea and 40.00 in shakes I can't drink! The one that consistently is ok for me is premier which are on sale 18 for 19.99 at Costco. Unjuy powder is the only one I can use that doesn't upset my stomach. Unjury sells a sampler pack so you can try the flavors before you buy a big container. They are online.
Good luck
It could be lactose. A lot of people develop lactose intolerance after surgery. It doesn't have to be all milk products either. Some can do yogurt still, but not milk.
