Experiencing a speed bump

I have been through this before so I recognize it and know what to do.  The numbers on the scale have been steadily going down. It's now stopped and I know what the next step is.  MOVE  Like most older life long obese persons I am now having back issues and knee issues. Not bad, but enough to make me say I will exercise tomorrow.  Well, its tomorrow.  Although I use to be a gym rat I really don't want to go that route for now.

Plan A, tackle cardio first and then add resistance.  I am going to try walking and if that does not work get some air in my bike tires.  I also bought an exercise ball.  If you have never used one it's a great workout and also therapy for your back.

Plan B, if I can't do plan A due to my knee and back issues I will find a pool somewhere.

Wish me luck

Hugs,

I had never really exercised a day in my life before last March.  I started slowly with water exercise classes then moved onto beginner Zumba.  They have these classes at my YMCA and they are free with membership. They also have a Coach Approach program that helps you set realistic goals.  I worked up to spending about two hours 3-4 times a week but it took time.  Just before my surgery December 3 I discovered the rowing machine.  You can regulate the speed and little stress on your back (I am not sure about knees) but it basically exercises everything plus it's cardio exercise. I can't weight to get back to it and get rid if some of the weight loss hanging flab by building muscle.  Plus once you get used to it exercise makes you feel great. I know I never believed it until I forced myself over the initial hump but it turned out it was true.  My back stopped hurting.  Good luck.

Hi lo_ri_p,

Great job on exercising and it sounds like you have found things you love to do. That is key to keep moving, finding something you love to do

Exercise and or moving is the reason I had stayed at goal for most of my 10 years.  I actually ended up being a gym rat, body building and got down to 10 body fat.  Yes, I was a little obsessed for a time and loved it.  Personal issues made it where I had to focus on someone else, but getting back to moving, slowly.

Keep me posted on how you are doing!

Great job for you too.  I know things come up but I try not to let it stop me because it makes me feel better.  It's frustrating not to do what I want right now but I know that it is a matter of time and I just need to be patient.

I am the crowning queen of not exercising... But get me in a store shopping and I am transformed into Richard Simmons lol... I can walk you to death with no stop..lol Just guess I need a pretty shiny shopping bag dangling in front of me on a treadmill or bike lol..

Karma....What would life be without it?  250lbs gone! 410/160... Life's sweet!

I don't exercise, but I am active. I have a Fitbit, and make sure I keep a certain level of activity from day to day. So far, it's working pretty well for me.

Some people feel guilty about not hitting the gymn, or doing some other "big" thing like 5Ks, or bike races, etc. There is a lot to be said for plain old day to day activity.
