DOC LETTER
I'm starting the process to get the sleeve done. I trying to go through my insurance but I am having trouble finding a doc to write a letter stating I need the surgery! I'm 5'5" and weight 270lbs damn is that not enough they just act like I'm some fat lazy chick that just needs to work out Any suggestions? I leaving in st pete Florida if you know of a general Doc.
Your BMI is almost 45 - generally you need BMI of 35 with comorbidities, or 40 with no comorbidities. What does your PCP say? Does your insurance require a referral from a PCP? Perhaps the weight center where you are considering having the surgery done could refer you to a PCP.
Go to a surgeon's Orientation Meeting - I'm sure there will be other people there who could give you the names of their PCPs.......

Call your insurance company and ask for GP's in your network. See if you can get a physical, then discuss your interest in WLS to the GP. If you show that you've done your homework and the GP thinks you're in otherwise OK shape for surgery, you may be able to get the required documentation.
