Anyone know what's going on with Dr. Cirangle?

In fairness, they did their best to keep me inform without over disclosing. Thanks for posting back though:) I appreciate the feedback and some of the lol's brought on by the others:)

I'm assuming you've talked to his office by now -- I too was scheduled for Dec. and had to be rescheduled. His staff was keeping quiet out of respect and discretion for him (which I totally appreciate), but it was unnerving and I wasn't sure what the hell was going on.  He's resumed his surgical schedule, tho -- my surgery with him and Dr. Machado was 2 weeks ago.  just call Stacy and she'll get things moving again.

Thanks Sarah:)

I finally did contact the office and Stacey did bring up Dr. Machado. However, she didn't make it sound like they both would be involved in the surgery. Sounds like that what you were told though, Sarah. Very curious. Thank you for getting back to me, I really have my heart set on Dr. C (no offense to anyone else, I know there are various reputable Dr. who perform this procedure) and I would be comfortable knowing he was in the operating room with Dr. M, but Stacey did not mention that. Wonder why?

I'm not sure why - I know Stacy was very hesitant to commit to anything on the phone with me generally.  But when I went in to talk to Dr. C, he made it very clear that he is my surgeon, he is managing my care pre-op, during the surgery, while I'm at the hospital, and post-op.  And he was.

He and Dr. Machado both came and talked to me multiple times during pre-op, and he came to my room that afternoon scolding me for using so much pain med and not walking enough. ;) He was also there 2 or 3 times the next day when I got discharged.

I had a random attack of kidney stones (likely unrelated to surgery), but it was my first and the pain was so intense I thought something had burst.  He was on the phone with me and the E.R. doc multiple times at 3:30am the week after surgery.  Also personally answering my e-mails about whether my belly button incision was healing properly and other insane worry-wart questions.

He said he wouldn't trust me to Dr. Machado in the operating room if he wasn't confident that she would do as good a job.  The alternative is to wait about 3 months, when he expects to be back to surgery -- not sure how open you are to that?

I'm totally happy that I went with the hybrid surgeon approach, though I totally consider him my surgeon.

Make an appointment with him and see what he says, maybe?  I'm sure he would approach your surgery the same way.

Hi,  I'm new here and I realize this is an old thread, but I'm having the same thing happen to me too (months later!) and I looking for anymore input/updates anyone has.

I had a consult with Dr Cirangle weeks ago, and have been trying to schedule the VSG surgery for April, self-pay, ever since. His office (Stacey) is saying he is having surgery himself and won't know when he'll be back to doing the surgeries yet. What's unusal is that she keeps saying "call back next week, his surgery has been postponed". She's said this twice now and it's been a month since my first call! During my consult with him I told him I was interested in surgery for April and he said "that sounds great" - then I called his office three days later and they say I can't schedule it and he will be letting them know the "day of his surgery as to when he will be back"...that just doesn't sound right at all.

thanks for any input :)

Hmmm...very strange indeed. I emailed about 3 months ago and was told he is still not doing surgeries. I'll keep board posted if I hear anything different.

Maybe someone should file a missing person's report.

What will the world of WLS do without the only surgeon on the planet who can perform a perfect VSG?

Maybe the psychological weight of being the only doctor on the planet who can perform a proper VSG got to him...  and he started abusing some substance to deal with the enormity of his responsibility to the WLS community and he is now in rehab...?

lol..he is a great surgeon though. I love the fact he did a live stream and explained his technique throughout the entire process. Of course, there are many other wonderful docs out there too:)

I am getting the feeling there maybe some tension about Cirangle in this community though. I hope my asking about him isn't ruffling any sleeves (guilty of bad jokes and corniness..clearly). Just curious about the delay as it has now been almost a year. Obviously, I have found an alternative and am moving along with surgery, but it does suck when you have done due dilligence and finally come to a choice, only to find the surgeon is essentially on a major hiatus for almost the last year.

Bah hum bug..but I'll survive. Whatever the case is, I hope Dr. C comes back soon:) I met a couple of docs through this journey and spent some serious dough in the process. Cirangle spent the most time with me and didn't charge me a dime. Gotta respect that, all said and done.
