Question for Kathy S
I have very little information on my profile. I do this for a reason. I share what I want to share and don't share what I don't want to. The older I get, the more I realized I was sharing too much. Everyone "out there" does not have good intentions. By providing my location, my surgeon, my surgery date etc it would be really easy for someone here locally to figure out who I was. I don't necessarily want all of my co-workers, family members etc to know all of my thoughts/feelings regarding my personal weight loss.

you can share all kind of information without divulging info that would allow ppl in. Your town to know who you are.
Many put "somewhere,Tn" for example. For my part Nashville is a BIg place and I have never had anyone ask me about my participation in this site.
May. I ask ,have you visited the profiles of anyone else on this site, and maybe received information, insight,or support from. What they have posted?
It is,in part, about paying it forward. Those that. Came before me had complete profiles of their journeys and that was invaluable tome and many others.
Unfortunately the last few years and I have been on this site for over six years,as you can see in my profile, most posters are only here for themselves and what they can get. They don't stay around long enough to pay it forward, and that is a real shame, because where would they. Be if those of us who are vets now,did that same thing? Hose posters only show up again whining for help and support after they "fall off the wagon" even though they couldn't be bothered to stay around and pay it forward.
I definitely agree that the minimum should be to set what kind of surgery someone had and when they had it. When reading questions, or advice, or anything, we really need to know the person's background.
Maybe it would help to have an option for "looking into options", "pre-op RNY", or things like that to show up, for those who haven't had surgery yet.
I totally understand that many people are private, but you can always choose a name that has nothing to do with your real name, an avatar that is not a real picture, etc. It just seems that if you're on a weight loss surgery forum, we should know some very basics about the people we're reading and talking to.
