hi.

im doing a weight loss program thru a hospital with goal to be approved for a WLS. I have to lose 5-10% of my weight and am looking for help with meal planning/weight loss that isn't a fad diet to drop the weight. I am going to nutrition and behavioral but they give guide lines. I'm to the point where I just want to be told what to eat. The reason is I am learning in the process about my relationship with food and to process that if I am left to my own devices I make bad decisions. If I have something to follow it will be easier for me to get started. I'm frustrated. Thank you for your time reading this and any input you may have.

Why not try Weigh****chers? Or a similar programme. They give you smile meal plans.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Atkins or The Mediterranean diet are healthy, easy options. No matter how succinct the diet is, though, you still have to be present and accountable for all your food choices. You will never find a set meal plan that suits your taste 100% and no surgery will do that for you.

I am in the same boat, second month of the three that is required by my insurance, and I all but begged my dietitian to give me a set menu so I could follow it. Luckily I am taking a nutrition class in college and my instructor has offered to send me info on different diets, bariactric / diabetes . Good luck!!!

if I,personally, was needing to lose weight to be approved for surgery,I would have 4-5 protein shakes a day,and one lean and green. Meal a day. For. Me ,lean and green is a large salad with a dense protein, like a grilled chicken salad.

It includes all the broth and sugar free jello and pudding I want.

This was my preop diet and I lost 12 pounds on the 10 days. I would use is diet until I lost the amount of weight that was required.

I have been doing low carbs, basically eating eggs, eggbeaters, light cheeses like string cheese or laughing cow wedges, lean meats like chicken breast, fish, pork loin, lean ground beef, canned tuna or chicken breast. I eat peanutbutter some. Light and fit greek yogurts. lean deli style black forest ham, turkey or turkey pastrami. great northern beans or black beans, I do toss salads. Cabbage, greenbeans, cauliflower, broccoli veggies like this...stay away from all the WHITE crabs...potatoes, corn, bread crackers etc.  Make sure you measure out your portions. I also use myfitnesspal to record the food and calories..its the easiest! I don't drink anything with calories much unless it is unsweet almond milk=30 calories for a cup.

We can do this. Eat 5-6 small amounts a day!

I had to follow a pre-op diet before my WLS for two weeks (my bmi wasn`t too high, others had to follow it for 3 or more weeks), and it was the same as one of the members posted here: one protein shake in the morning, one more for lunch and one green salad w/low fat dressing for dinner with some kind of protein (chicken breast, fish fillet, low fat cheese, egg white etc.), and if needed (at the beginning it was hard to get used to eating less) one more protein shake for supper. This diet is also called protein pre-op diet helps not only to lose weight, but also prepares you for the surgery. It shrinks your fatty liver, so the surgery goes easier, faster, they make less incisions (no need to have an extra incision to lift up your liver to get to the stomach) and the recovery is more smooth as well. This diet was recommended to me by my nutritionist Dr. Jose Luna, and he said I could use it when I reach the plateau stage. This diet was super effective for me, hope it helps you too :) p.s. drink plenty of water with it!

For 2.5 months prior to surgery I replaced the meals I ate by myself (breakfast and lunch most days) with a protein shake.  This worked out really well for me.  I lost weight and I feel like it got me in a better mindset.

This is all helpful information! Thank you! My only issue is I'm in limbo with no date set yet. My program has a behavioral therapy component that is 6 weeks long. Except the leader of the group took 3 weeks off so I still have 3 weeks left and an individual meeting with her. Then they( nutrition, behavior, Bariatric internist and bariatric surgeon) all sit together and discuss my case and all parts have to approve me for surgery. So today I made a stand and breakfast was protein shake. Only water to drink thru the day... And high protein meals carbs from veggies ( tho I know I will slip and eat "bad carbs".) So let the sugar withdrawal begin! Im just trying to stay positive and do one day at a time. I truly appreciate all of your support. This is the first time I have ever reached out like this... And its nice to feel welcomed. And not judged (that's the biggest point). Thank u everyone. Here's to continued mutual support.
