Bodybuilding post gastric bypass
Hello all...
I had gastric bypass over four years ago and have maintained a loss of over 115 pounds. I generally eat like I should and workout. I am at the point where I am trying to increase my muscle mass, tone and definition; however, I am struggling to do so. I am sure it is because my caloric and nutritional intake aren't where they should be. (I'm female, 5'4" and 115 pounds). Anyone know of an online resource that could help me come up with an accurate eating plan to achieve my goal?
There are tons of resources out there on bodybuilding. I think this is one of the best, with Lyle McDonald. He has a Ph.D., so it's information that has more reliability than many sites.

You will see some bad advice, so keep in mind a couple of simple facts. You can gain strength by lifting heavy -- if you can do more than 8 or 10 repetitions at a given weight, the weight is not heavy enough. If you can do 15, 20, or 50 reps, you will never add muscle.
Gaining strength and gaining muscle are not the same thing. The only way you can add muscle is if you eat more calories than you burn. You must have a surplus. That also means you gain some fat. Bodybuilders do this all the time. After adding muscle (and fat) they cut calories to get rid of the fat -- but they also lose a little of the muscle they just added along with the fat. It's a never ending cycle they refer to as cutting and bulking. It's the only way to add muscle mass without getting too fat.

There's someone who posts in the Exercise forum who is a body builder. I can't remember her name off the top of my head, though!

I was into bodybuilding big time before my Plastic Surgery. I loved it and my body fat was 10%. I wanted to make sure when the surgeon removed all my skin there was nothing underneath. I don't do it anymore but miss it big time. We look forward to your posts on how you are doing.
