Grain Brain/Wheat Belly

Having read these, I'm pretty much convinced that wheat and other grains and inflammation are at the heart of much weight gain and other diseases. Can anyone comment on how you and what you eat given no grains?! A great cookbook (most companion cookbooks are unimpressive) reference would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance!

forme the post op diet was pretty much Wheat Belly oriented. I eat lots of meat, fish, chicken, some non starchy vegetables, limited berries, and no wheat products, corn. Products no starchy Vegs like sweet potato,no sugar etc.

there are recipes in the back of the Wheat Bellybook that are good and I believe there is now a cookbook out. Also

Almost verbatim what HollyKim wrote above.  This is basically the "metabolic diet plan" that the Cleveland Clinic dietician devised for me as an insulin-dependant diabetic now in remission.

Yeah, I feel like I should just follow you around saying, "yeah, what she said..."

Wait.  I do!

I just keep it simple and easy for myself.  I avoid all things with gluten and sugar.  I am not anal about it but I do read labels and avoid things that have unknown ingredients.

I have been doing this since my revision in 2010 and it works for me.  It is easy for me to follow or I wouldn't have been able to do it for nearly 5 years.

It really hasn't been any kind of burden.  I get through holidays, birthdays, potlucks and everything else by eating exactly how I eat the rest of the year.  It isn't something I go on and off.

I found that when I don't eat those things I don't want them, plain and simple.  Past history has shown me that I cannot do certain things in moderation and having already failed one WLS because I could not control those things I am not about to find out if things would be different now.  It has never worked before and it won't work now.

That doesn't mean I go around eating only pure, natural food.  I have gluten free things and sugar free things, I just don't  have a problem having them in moderation.

My weight has been pretty stable, no major gains.  I have trended up a bit.  I weigh about 4 lbs more then a year ago but that is welcome since I got too low and I wanted to put on a little weight but I wanted to do it in a controlled way and not let myself go hog wild again.

To tell you the truth, I suck at losing weight and I really hope to god I never have to go through that again.  I don't do good depriving myself so I would rather figure out a way to eat that I can live with and modify as needed but stick with for the most part.

I never know what tomorrow will bring and I may be doing things entirely differently at some point but for now it works so I don't try to fix it.

There are a gazillion cookbooks on Paleo.  It's grain free and very popular, so you'll find lots of info.  Also websites, Whole 30 and The Clothes Make the Girl are two (both also have books out).  It's pretty much how I eat, although I do indulge in the occasional dairy.  I call it "Paleo with cheese".

Just going to chime in that I loved reading both books. Also, the author that wrote Grain Brain has a great Facebook page where he posts interesting articles a few times a week. You might want to check it out.
