"This is ridiculous. You are 2 weeks post op..."

Yeah.  WTH?!?  No one under any cir****tances would be told that sometimes RNY just doesn't work when they are only 2 weeks out.

{reaching in my pocket for my "BS flag" to throw...}

Even a clueless surgeon knows that you cannot tell a damn thing about how successful someone is going to be at 2 weeks out!

So at 2 weeks out, HOW do you know you have no restriction?

How did the surgery not work? Did he not operate on your stomach and bypass your intestines?

Being able to drink without difficulty is NOT a hallmark of surgical failure, nor is being able to eat without difficulty. Certainly some people fail their surgeries, but it's early days to decide that. Follow your plan, don't freestyle eat, measure your portions, move your body, and drink plenty of water. You don't have to fail. Surgery doesn't do all the work. We have to take charge of ourselves.

He told you specifically today that "YOUR surgery didn't work"?

No…he said it's possible that it didn't work…it's not unheard of.

This makes zero sense.  Did he do an endoscopy to see if anything was wrong?  Most people don't feel restriction while healing - I certainly didn't.

How do you know that you can eat anything at 2 weeks?  Were you eating during your post-op liquid diet?

During surgery all of your nerves get severed.  While they're healing, your stomach is a lying liar that lies and you can't trust anything it tells you.  However, if you overeat, you risk damaging yourself.  So it's imperative that you measure your food and don't overeat.  Stick to your plan of protein-first.  Make sure to get your fluids in.

It's really important that you keep your stomach safe while it's healing.

And if you're not seeing a therapist already, make that a priority.  You sound like the sort of person who will believe she's destined to fail, and then make that a self-fulfilling prophecy.  So work on breaking that sneaky hate spiral NOW, before it sinks you!

I pretty much stuck to the plan. I admit (and got chastised) I had some soup 5 days out..Maybe I should choose different words…I FEEL like I could eat anything but have not..being a person who went from band to RNY I'm trying really hard to believe this is and will work for me..I will not fail!
