Who are you to judge Donna4166? There are all kinds of things that could be wrong. She needs to go to another doctor and ask what the heck is going on? something isn't right. I got so hungry I ate a whole bag of cheese puffs in one day and still lost weight. One can of cream soup one time isn't going to stop someone's weight loss. So don't be so high and "Mighty" to judge someone else's actions or motivation. We are all individuals and all have feelings. Now I noticed that person has deactivated their membership. Wonder why....

A different doctor can't fix what's going on in a patient's head.

Just because YOU lost weight after eating cheesy poofs doesn't mean that someone ELSE will also lose weight. Every surgery/body/patient is different, but when you look at large numbers of posts over the long term, there seems to be a correlation between failure to embrace new habits and follow doctors orders with long-term success.

What feels worse? One day's post with people telling you to get your head in the game, or months (or longer) of feeling bad because you didn't get the post-op results you hoped for?

We are all different. We are all valuable. Most of us fall once in a while. I agree she sounds like she already knows she has failed, but maybe if she has lost faith in her doctor, another doctor could restore her faith in herself and in the surgery. Counseling doesnt always work either, I have had countless counselors who dont know their ___ from a hole in the ground when it comes to helping an obese person figure out why they eat and how to stop. My counselor said i was depressed and prescribed medication that stopped my weight loss 8 months from my surgery date. You had the right advice. Just be gentler, she seems very broken... all Im saying.

As a data scientist by trade, I believe that individual differences don't mean much in the long-term. In aggregate, there are no special snowflakes.

Facts are not, by nature, gentle. Of all the posts I've ever seen here, and all of the doctors' advice that has been relayed, I've seen no cases where a doctor is directly responsible for what a patient puts in his/her mouth, particularly when counter to medical recommendations.

Yes I know facts are not gentle. But the delivery of facts can be harsh or gentle. Harshness very rarely gets us what we want. But I am not going to debate this with you. I don't believe you would concede your position even if you realized you were wrong. So this is my last reply to you. God would not have made us all individuals if it didn't make a difference. What if we were ALL data scientists? Not such a good world.....

I sincerely hope you have a wonderful day!

I'm going to tell you right now that she has one of the best doctors in the state of Rhode Island when it comes to WLS.

Maybe if she would just listen to Dr. Pohl and follow the plan  she would be successful.  She admitted to failing with the lap band.

As a matter of fact I had an appointment yesterday with Dr. Pohl whom I have been a patient of for 11 years.  I asked him out right if he ever told a patient that the RNY does not work.  His response was NO, he did state that he has had patients at 3 months out stop losing weight because they found out they didn't dump and started eating high sugar, high fat, high calorie, high carb foods, grazing on them all day long.  He also said that for some folk the first few weeks they might not lose much or anything due to the way their bodies hold onto fluids from the surgery, but then they have a large weight lose by the end of month 1.

The OP in my opinion was not ready for a revision surgery as she just can't grasp what it takes to be successful.  When you start testing your pouch at 5 days out and then get upset when people tell you not to do that.  Yea your head is not in the game.

WLS is only a tool it is up to the person to use that tool correctly and continue to use it for the rest of their lives.

I am glad you asked him about this.  I have a hard time imagining ANY doctor saying what the OP claimed was said, but based on what my friend has said about Dr Pohl, it just did NOT seem right.

I agree that it sounds like she wasn't psychologically ready for another surgery.  Hopefully, she will seek out some help.
