How do you work out the logistics of surgery if you don't want anyone to know?

I'd like to do my revision to sleeve without anyone knowing, but I'm not sure it's possible.  Every time I've had surgery in the past, the doctor required someone to be there with me.  When I got my band, my entire family knew.  I told my immediate family, and they thought it was okay to tell every other member of my family without my permission.  I don't want the revision to become family gossip, which I know it would if I told my family.  I also don't want it to get around at work, since I don't think it's any of my coworkers business.

Unfortunately, I just moved to Miami several months ago, so I don't have any friends here except for coworkers.  If the doctor requires someone to be at the surgery center with me, I don't know who I would bring.

you can hire someone to be with you.  Home care type person.

yes, hire someone. or meet another nice wls person at a support group meeting. maybe online? i was at a support group meeting the other night where some people never told anyone they were having surgery, period. i thought that was amusing. one girl did not even tell her boyfriend but after 100 days and 100 pounds lost he started to worry! so she told him. i got a good chuckle out of that

good luck!

You'll have to have someone drive you home after surgery.  I guess you could hire a home health aide or something if you truly did not want to tell anyone.  But it seems awfully difficult to go through major surgery with absolutely no support at all.

Of course, your surgeon and hospital staff will need to know who to contact if there is a problem, if you are unable to consent to additional medical care, etc.  Like, what if during the surgery they find a problem and need to do something unexpected?

I think you need ONE family member or close friend by your side. Surely one of them can keep your confidence and support you during surgery and recovery. My best friend flaked on me at surgery but her mom was at my side every day! (As was mine)

Hire a nurses aid.  Give him/her instructions on who to contact in the event of emergency.  And make sure they can drive you home!

Thanks to everyone that replied!  I know I'll most likely tell my mom and have her with me when I have surgery, but hopefully I can convince her that the rest of the family doesn't need to know.
