Am I eligible for a weight loss revision?

Hi,

My name is Isabella and I am from Toronto, Ontario. I'm looking into a weight loss revision. I had roux en y laparoscopic weight loss surgery in 2011 at the request of my surgeon because he felt that would be the best operation for me at the time weighing in 300 pounds. After having roux en y, I knew going in that I wasn't comfortable with that procedure because I felt I wasn't going to lose as much which was proven true. I only managed to lose 60 pounds first year and then the weight loss stopped. It's been a few years later and I have gained back 30 pounds since and find myself no longer feeling full after a meal. I'm worried my weight will spiral back out of control which is why I'm seeking a revision. I've seen my original surgeon and let him know what has happened to me but said there was nothing else he could possibly do. I feel maybe I would have benefit more from the gastric sleeve. I'm looking into a revision that would help solve my hunger and put me back on track. Any informative information to what my next steps should be would be kindly appreciated from the Obesity help forum. Thank you all for your time.

That is really difficult.  Did he do an endoscopy or anything to see if there was anything wrong with your surgery or anything had changed? Maybe go for a second opinion. Found this helpful article that may give you some good information on how RNY can be revised.

Thank you for replying dear. The original surgeon has done the endoscopy test on me and saw that it was fine and nothing else can be done but I honestly feel that there is something wrong since I can't seem to lose weight and started gaining. I've done workout routines and continued eating healthy but the weight won't shred. I'm really concerned for my health and don't know what else to do.

A few people will revise from a sleeve to RNY, but not the other way around. The duodenal switch (DS), is the surgery with the highest expected weight loss, but that is a really difficult and risky operation. There are only a few surgeons that will do an RNY to DS.

Ask for an endoscopy so they can see the condition of your pouch and stoma.

You can gain weight with any surgery in the long run. The doctor may feel you were noncompliant after your RNY, and that may make him reluctant to do anything further.

Thanks sweetheart for the reply. The surgeon looked into my endoscopy and saw that there was nothing more he can possibly do. I really feel like the roux en y failed me and I didn't have much of a say in the beginning. I've been working out before having surgery and saw that since I struggled with weight loss then, that my only option would be to have roux en y. But even the roux en y has failed me. I feel defeated and stressed.

Sorry for your frustration!! Do you keep a food and exercise log? Maybe you could start working with a nutritionist to see if there is something you can do to jump start your weight loss again. Good luck!

Thank you for the reply Hun.

Since earlier last year, I have decided to see a dietician to see if maybe I was doing something wrong by eating the wrong foods or maybe not following the healthy food guidelines but everything I was doing to keep the weight off just wouldn't seem to work. I exercised regularly, I've watched my portion control, I've watched my nutrition facts as I was picking up healthy items but my weight can't seem to drop. I've been monitored for 5 months by a dietician and it seems she couldn't understand herself why my weight won't move. I'm scared that I'm gonna reach 300 pounds again. I really wish a surgeon out there could hear my weight loss struggle. After hearing how many ppl had success with roux en y, I figured something must be wrong with my health. Maybe a blockage or too much fat is stored in my body. I don't know and really concerned for my health. I'm really nervous :-(

Hi sweetheart,

i have been keeping control of what I eat. Even downloading the app " MyFitnessPal" so I can keep control of what I eat. I don't eat anything bad. I eat mostly Strawberries, Raspberries, apples, Dempsters Whole grain tortilla wraps, Greek yogurt, oven roasted chicken, white solid tuna and whole grain crackers. Nothing to over the top just ordinary and I watch my intake but my weight just stays in one place and eventually picks up the weight gain. I'm only 25 and don't wanna see me top the scales at 300 pounds again. I'm aware that no surgery is guaranteed and permanent but I just wanna be able to feel full again that will make me eat less to nothing and drink mostly water half the time. I feel my pouch has stretched and the original surgeon is maybe in denial and doesn't wanna help me.

That is way too much fruit and carbohydrates for and RnYer. Protein first, then non starchy vegetables, then complex carbohydrates if you have room left.

Were you given a plan to follow and does your nutritionist haveexperience with wls?
