Hello!

My name is Danny B. and I have I have been lurking about since September and have decided to get started correctly by saying hello.
I underwent Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on 12/23/14. So far my recovery has gone very well. I moved from liquid diet to puree today and am working on settling in to the new food now available to me. I am taking my time to be sure I have no issues with the change in food.
My story is similar many others here, a lifelong struggle with food. A never ending list of diets with out the tools needed to be successful. I had been researching gastric surgery options for 2 years and finally reached a point in my life at 377 lbs that I had to do something. I started talking to my surgeon in September 2014 and moved through all of requirements. The surgery went as planned and I am settling into the new lifestyle I have chosen for myself.   I get to go back to work Monday and I cannot wait to get busy again.   Central Illinois winter is not conducive to outdoor activity, so I have been getting my exercise in on a treadmill. Work will get me back to 8 hours a day up and moving.
OK enough of the "short" intro.
Danny B.

Love the dogs in your avatar --- are they all yours?

Welcome Danny B.   I'm from Indiana, so I understand about the weather. My 12 year RNY surgery anniversary was in December.  When I first had my surgery we couldn't walk on the treadmill, so I started out by just walking indoors 10 minutes after every meal and snack and that was effective.  Keep up the good work!

Welcome! I am 5 months post op RNY. When I went back to work, I was not as prepared as I thought I was so I hope it is OK to share some advice! I have flex hours so my biggest issue was thinking I would be able to leave at a certain time and then, not being able to for various reasons (I work in Human Services so issues would come up). SO, by the time I got home I was tired and hungry, not having brought enough food with me to carry me through a longer time period. And being tired and hungry, I would gravitate towards grabbing crackers or other carbs that weren't especially good for me instead of protein (falling back into the old comfort carb foods). I would suggest you have plenty of good foods on hand. Good luck!

Thanks for the advise and caution Sharon. I have a great management/supervisory team and from my division head down to my direct supervisor we are working together to make sure I have the ability to take my breaks and lunch at times that allows me to follow my meal times. Our staff room allows me to prepare my meals so I will plan each work days meals the night before. I am very detail oriented, so setting myself up like this is a natural way to do things.
