Bad day at new job

day 2 and they order pizza at lunch! I'm 6 weeks post op. It was the most socially awkward situation EVER! I had a cheese stick and a nutri grain bar. I didn't want nutri grain bar, because I don't want the carbs to creep back in. I had Nothng else with me and was unprepared:/. I had another nutri grain bar for snack because I worked over 9 hours and could not leave to get something. I'm mad at myself for not being prepared and I loved the carbs...anyways, I went and purchased protein shakes n will b better prepared tomorrow. We are training in a facility that has us away from home and in a hotel for 2 months...it's challenging. I already feel my weight loss is slower than average...any suggestions?

It's a learning process. We are all different and you will find your groove. Try to take in more protein and that will help with the carb monster

keep us posted on how you are doing...

Being out of your comfort zone and in a hotel is definitely challenging! Knowing you weren't prepared and taking steps to correct that for tomorrow is great!! This is such a learning experience so don't be too hard on yourself!! Protein Crunch bars might be a good alternative to have on hand also. Once again, the carbs (9 gms) are there but not high fat. Nuts are also good. Does your hotel room have a frig? You could get some yogurt in and the cheese stick you had is great! If they are ordering from a pizza place maybe a meatball with sauce? Just make sure the sauce doesn't have a lot of sugar in it. Does the hotel have a gym or a pool? In terms of weight loss, I know it is hard not to look towards the end goal but as long as you get there and maintain it - that is all that matters. These "teachable moments" will help you to prepare for the long term because real life will always be there tempting us and interfering with our plans. I can't tell you how many times I got stuck at the office longer than planned with no food! Good luck and let us know how tomorrow goes!

Thank you. I have a mini fridge, but asked my relocation specialist If I can get a kitchenette so I can have more options and a stove for 2 months. There is a gym...trying to get to that, bc since I'm working again after surgery I'm very tired after a long day. The gym is my goal! Thanks for advice and encouragement!

Try other proteins such as turkey jerky, high protein bars, dried soybeans (great flavors available, nice for crunch, too.)

My suggestion is ' don't count on others to meet your food needs'.

I don't know if you have access to a car, but do your own shopping, even if you have to take a cab to the store.

Stock up on proteins you can eat.

Excuse yourself from meals you don't want to see or smell ... Tell them you have phone calls to make or emails to send .... Go back to your own room roadway from the crowd and eat what works for you.

Buy some sugar-free breath mints .. Pop one when you need to divert yourself from their meals or snacks.

I used to chant "that's not my food' to myself, over and over, when presented with work/food situations.  Then, I would go and eat my planned food.

Pizza was never a problem for me - I would take a piece and tell people I was allergic to wheat and srape off all toppings and cheese and eat it that way.  Not the healthiest of choices but at least I got some protein in.

Question:  what were you planning to eat at lunch if they hadn't brought in pizza?  I would suggest that you always be prepared with a healthy lunch, even if you believe the boss will be catering in something.  Most of the time it will never be sleeve-friendly.

Like Tracy, if I had no other choice, I would have eaten the toppings and left the bread.  Not the best lunch ever, but acceptable.

Planning and preparation in the first 6-12 months is important.  Always have a fall back plan.  And if you end up having to skip a meal or eat a "not perfect" meal, it's not the end of the world.

While I'm always happy to have food options that suit me, I never plan on that being the case.  I always have an emergency protein kit in my bad - tuna fish pouch, peanut or almond butter pouch, crunchy edamame bean snacks, etc.  And vitamins!
