Cool vacation idea

In September of 2013, my husband and I were lucky enough to travel to Spain and walk/hike 200km of the Camino de Santiago (a pilgrimage to the Cathedral of St. James in Santiago -- and then out to the far west coast of Spain).
Since my WLS, I have looked for 'active' vacations each year.
Year 1 -- walking tour of Montreal (10 miles a day for 7 days)
Year 2 -- hike down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon (and back out the next day)
Year 3 -- Germany/Austria/Switzerland -- hiking in the Swiss Alps!
Year 4 -- Camino de Santiago (200 km hike)
Year 5 -- due to health issues, no really active vacation, but a great walking tour of San Diego
This year --- I get the emails from the company that we used for our Camino and they are offering a Bike/Cruise along the Danube.
We will fly to Paris and spend 4-5 days mostly on foot, exploring.
Then, make our way to Passau and board a river cruise. 5 of the 7 days on the cruise, you get off and bike along the Danube River path as the boat floats --- -between 35 and 50 km per day -- exploring villages, culture, scenery.
On the days that you don't bike, you have walking tours in Vienna.
I can't wait!!!! --- Thinking early September for the cooler temps, less rain, long days and lack of kids who should be back in school by then!
Those trips sound wonderful. Good for you. I would go on any and all of them.

My parents had 9 kids on one income and there was not money for any vacation besides visiting cousins (which was fun, but the same every year).
My parents dreamt and talked of traveling once we were all grown ..... Then my mom died of a brain tumor at 56, with kids still at home.
My husband and I made a pact when I turned 50 that we will continue to work hard and take GREAT Vacations while we are still healthy enough to do it.
I am so grateful that WLS has given me the opportunity to take these adventures!!!
Wonderful!

Ooh those vacations sounds like such fun! Where is the Danube river path? The river cruise with bike riding/walking sounds really nice. Vienna, is that in Italy? I really should look at my globe more often. What company do you use? Active vacations sounds like fun!

The Danube flows in Germany, Austria, Hungary (maybe other countries also).
We will board the ship in Passau, Germany .... And travel to Vienna, Austria .. And then back to Passau.
Evidently, the bike path goes for more than 350 km along the river ...... It is the old "tow path" that the animals walked and pulled boats through .... So it is a pretty flat bike path ... We will get off the path periodically to go into villages for lunch, sight-seeing, wine-tasting (not too much or I won't be able to ride back to the boat!!).
The great part of this trip is that theboat keeps going, so if there is a day that you don't want to bike, you just stay on the boat.
We use Macs Adventure Tours .... Google them and see all of the amazing active vacations they offer!
Vienna is one of my favourites. I did a volunteer theatre placement there last year and was there for a month. Make sure you go beyond the majestic buildings into the older parts where people live!
And Paris is fabulous! And a very walkable city as it is quite small! I lived there for a year when I left home at 17.
Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
Surgery has made my holidays so much more exciting too! But even at 250lbs, we still used to do things like backpacking on our own through Asia etc.. But now I can include more physically strenuous things like hill walking in Maine as well and my clothes weigh a lot less in my backpack! Also seats on Asian and African local buses tend to be very small! I can fit in them now!
Hubby is doing the Camino de Santiago in a couple of months time although, like you, he isn't doing all of it. He is going with his brother so I am going off on my own to Itsly.
