I drink a lot of coffee and use full fat half and half. I started once my sugeon gave the ok at 6 months. I drink 2 to 3 in the early day and sometimes s decaf in the evening.  I use 2 measured TB of half and half and I count it in my calories (40 per cup). I've lost 175 lbs in 12 months.

I drink lattes wth skimmed milk but a tiny bit of caramel syrup - ordinary not sugar-free. Until I got to goal, I only had one a day with no caramel. Ever since I have several a day with that teaspoon of syrup. I have never counted calories.

if you are happy with your weight, what's the problem? If it starts to go up, stop the creamer!

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

I had a long talk with my NUT last month about my coffee intake.  I drink 12 oz of real coffee with caffeine every morning with 4 oz of skim milk and 1 scoop of vanilla or chocolate protein powder.  I like the cafffinated better than decaf but that's what my NUT took issue with.  She will allow me to count decaf towards my water intake but not regular coffee.  So sometimes I drink decaf instead.  If you're at goal, you have nothing to worry about.  I do count calories but the 4 oz of skim milk doesn't bother me as it adds 4g of protein.  I would think you just need to make sure you're getting enough liquids not counting the caffinated coffee and make sure the creamer isn"t adding much in the way of calories.  You should be fine, just as you are.

What is her reasoning behind this?  If it is due to the outdated myth that coffee dehydrates you -- then, I'd drink the coffee you like best.

Actually she did talk about it causing dehydration, however she also said it makes the kidneys work harder overall.  She said some NUTs state only pure water can be used towards our 64oz of required liquids daily, however she said she will allow other drinks as long as they don't contain caffeine.  And of course no carbination.  On the other hand, I think Iwill send the article to her.  Thank you for posting it!

I drink 2 cups of coffee every morning with 1/2 & 1/2.  I log the calories from the creamer.  In the summer I was drinking iced coffee mixed with vanilla protein powder and SF caramel syrup.  That was super yummy, but it's so cold here that the idea of iced coffee right now is not appealing.  LOL

If you use a low fat/no fat creamer and sugar substitute (or real sugar in small amounts) you'll be fine. I drink coffee daily and have for a long time. I just drink it black but have post op friends that use flavored syrups, splenda and low fat creamers to taste better.

Find what works for you.
