Yes, my scale is at the heart of my way of living. Without it, Inwould not have  lost and maintained  (or lost some regain).

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

YAy Kate!!!! thank you for this post, I have been feeling much the same about "right" and  "wrong" and what's working for me. Sometimes I feel more food-obsessed than EVER with all the tracking and planning and getting all the protein I need but I also need the accountability that tracking provides.

Thanks again for your post! Happy New Year!

I take the same approach as you do for the same reasons.  All I count is protein grams in the back of my head....just because I don't want to depend on any supplement shakes.

Me too Kate. I make sure I eat protein at every meal and count that. Everything else is measured by what my scale tells me every day.

Refreshing post. I especially liked what you said about:

"i did not cut out any food groups. I always had occasional treats." and

"If I had counted, measured, journaled, I would have become food-obsessed."

When people ask me what I can eat I tell them I can eat anything, I just chose not to eat some things on a regular basis. While I mostly eat low carb. I love tea and a good piece of toast. Do I have it every week? No, but I do occasionally have it.

In the beginning I was counting my protein in a journal. One of the dieticians suggested I use my fitness pal to make sure I was getting the right amount of protein. I did for about a month and then stopped... I found I was obsessing and worrying about calories etc. the only things I mentally count are my water and protein.

I also am a -weigh myself everyday- person. That is what keeps me on track. I got past my first major stall the first month (for 3 1/2 weeks) and now I don't let small fluctuations do mental games with me... I just keep moving forward and putting one foot in front of the other...

Thanks for sharing!

Kate this is a great post. You hit the nail on the head. It can be a bit overwhelming and obsessive when following a specific plan/diet. I have exactly as you have a things are working out just fine for me as well. Thanks for the vent, very refreshing!
