quitting smoking prior to surgery

Quitting smoking is a hard thing to do.They do have classes at hospitals that do help. Some doctors won't even do the surgery unless the person has not smoked in six months.
Life is never easy. You will feel so much better after you quit.Cigarettes are a tough habit to break. But if you have the surgery and go back to smoking. It can lead to an ulcer.
Look into a support system and see if that helps. You deserve to be healthy. Not just for your child but for you also.
Take care
Chantix has been successful in many hard core smokers i know. I quit several years ago when i decided to try having a baby. I did it cold turkey. It was horrible for three days, super tough for a week and then got much easier. Children whose parents smoke are 80% more likely to pick up the habit. So do it for your son too :) Best of luck!!!
I've been a smoker for 38 years, 2 1/2-3 packs a day. I smoked a cigarette in the car on the way to the hospital for my RNY surgery. I've never had any complications, but I am now considering a revision and know the surgeon won't do it unless I am smoke-free. I started on Chantix (for a second time) on October 26, 2014. I smoked my last cigarette on December 15, 2014. The chantix upsets my pouch terribly, regardless of taking Protonix prior to taking it. My boyfriend came home for Christmas and he still smokes. It's been difficult, so I had him go into the bathroom with a lit candle. It kinda solves a couple of issues.LOL.
Best of luck to you on your journey.

Desperately Seeking a revision to a DS.
Be careful of the toes you step on today because they will be attached to the ass you have to kiss tomorrow.
Thank you for replying to my post. May i ask why you are going for a revision. Also you said you smoked on the way to have the surgery, does that mean you did not quit prior to the surgery? If so did your surgeon say anything. I have received my surgery date of February 9, 2015. I hope that means they will go through with the surgery. I am using chantix but i needed prior authoration for the continuing pack and i have already used my starter pack so i have not stopped smoking completely. My pre op is on the 30 th. Im so scared if after everything ive done my surgeon will not go through with the surgery and i will only have myself to blame.
