X-post: Don't ignore heartburn...and here's why!

I know about this first hand. I had VBG in 1986 and suffered from severe GERD for 24 years. The acid ate away at the muscle that closes the stomach off from the esophagus until it no longer functioned. I was diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus and had 6 pre-cancerous tumors removed. I have to have an endoscopy done every year to check for cancer. I was revised to RNY in 2010 and my GERD was completely resolved.
Don't take heartburn lightly. It is not normal and can cause real damage.

Don't ignore Gerd or heartburn is right. That is how my gastrogastric fistula was found and diagnosed and then a need for a gastrectomy 3 months ago. The bile burned through my blind stomach into the pouch and up the esophagus.
