Was your surgery at the Clinic?

Most definitely support groups help! Support is an important part of success from WLS.
When you are in a support group, you are among others that understand and have "been there, done that" in terms of being morbidly obese and having surgery. You can obtain support from the leader and other members, and you also can pay it forward by supporting others.
You can obtain education, support and exchange all sorts of information such as recipes, articles, etc. I've been a support group member since I was pre-op and been a support group member and support group leader since having surgery. IMHO, support is an important part of being successful as a WLS post-op.

Not only do I go, I help facilitate. I am 7 years out and I find it extremely valuable. Somewhere along my journey, I had developed alcoholism and had a re-gain of 45 pounds. I got sober. Coming back to WLS support group was absolutely key to getting me back on track, and I'd say one of the main keys to my successfully taking off that weight plus more, and maintaining it for over a year now. I tell people at our meeting to keep coming... whether they need support or can offer it. No one understands what we go through like someone else who has been through it.

WLS 5/31/07. Maintaining a weight loss of 141 pounds and feeling amazing!
Depends on the group and your mindset, I think. I think that we are all programmed to benefit from different types of support and that it's best to try them all out to figure out what will click with your own needs. But, some support groups also suck and some are amazing. Experimentation is key!
