why am i so hungry after surgery?
Are you taking a PPI such as prilosec or nexium? More often than not, post-op hunger is really just stomach acid which can mimic the feeling of hunger. Taking a PPI clears this up for many. If you're not taking one already, ask your surgeon. If you are taking one already, you might need a higher dose or a stronger PPI like protonix.

When I was 4 days post-op, I was drinking protein shakes and strained french onion soup from Panera. What is allowed on your plan?

You can also have Jello, popsicles (both usually sugar free), herbal teas, Crystal Light, Propel water, and G2 Gatorade just to name a few other liquid suggestions. I also drank a little diluted apple juice. I'm still not clear what surgery you had, but understand you had your surgery on Dec. 3rd. It's been a little over 2 years since I had my surgery and it took about 9 months before I started feeling any hunger . As Gwen said, it could very well be acid you're feeling. Also, my stomach is still really noisy and if I attributed all of its noises to hunger, I'd be eating all the time. My hunger feels more like an emptiness than the gnawing hunger I had pre-surgery.

You are going to have to get used to being sick of liquids for a while.
When you signed up for WLS, you signed up for the pre and post op programs.
Your plan probably calls for a few weeks of liquids (based on surgery type).
Strained soups (clear at first, you will graduate to full liquids), sugar free jello, Popsicles, water, protein drinks.
Just about everyone here did it ... You can do it, too.
