Not much to eat since surgery
on 12/7/14 4:24 am - RIVERDALE, NJ
Hey guys pain is starting to go away finally. I have hardly eaten anything since b4 surgery. I dunno just tired of liquids I want to just chew something already lol....Any suggestions on what to eat?
Are you cleared for puréed or soft? What instructions did your surgeon and NUT for progressing your meal plan. Your new stomach needs to heal fully or you can do irreparable damage. I know that it's frustrating, but give it a little while. In six months these challenging recovery days will be but a memory to you.
When I had my original RNY surgery in 2009 I went through an angry mourning stage the first week. I mourned all of those foods that I loved (still do). My husband and I are foodies and love fine dining/international cuisines. I also love to cook and am quite good at it. It passed, and as I healed I was able to enjoy those flavor again with modifications to accommodate my WLS needs. Now, after my revision, I am struggling again, mostly because I did have a major complication that has set me back for about four weeks. I am just now getting to eat small amounts of what I love.
I know that I can tend to be long winded, but my goal is to point out that this too shall pass. The rewards and health benefits will definitely outweigh this frustrating time during your recovery.
I have not really posted to you much but I have lurked. You have been in my thoughts and prayers, and I am glad that you have stepped over the threshold onto the loser's bench.
Much luck to you.

You should still be on a liquid diet. Stick with it because I ate something too early and it was painful. I found out a coworker of mine ate too early and I'm caused a leak and he had to o back into surgery and have it repaired. You will be on a pureed diet soon enough and it does get better at that point. I ate a lot of pudding and that helped. Also potato soup strained was really good.
I was drinking protein shakes and strained french onion soup from Panera. Yum. And sugar free popsicles.

This was the hardest part of my first 6 weeks. You probably won't be chewing for a while (depending on your doctor's plan), so try and just get through it. Just keep telling yourself: you'll get to eat like a real person soon. My doctor's plan put me on the full diet plan at 6 weeks, and I've never been so happy to have a little salad!

Thanks guys! He said clear first then full second then pureed 3 and so on....I definitely don't want to bust open my tummy so I'll follow the regimen. ...I'll try different broths atleast I'm not starving but I'm feeling the effects of no food
Remember we're still healing internally. I know how you're starting to feel good, but try to experiment with different broths. I opened a can of chicken noodle soup and just drained out the noodles. I need taste, it worked. I'll probably go out and buy some Won Ton soup today and just drain all the veggies and won tons out. I had my surgery same day as you. We might be feeling really good on the outside but we're still healing on the inside. I started chewing my multivitamin yesterday, that was yummy! We just need to hang-in-there a couple more weeks! We're almost there! Good luck. Christine
