I have always been a picky eater.  I am NOT a veggie lover at all.   I'll eat tomatoes in soups and ketchup not raw.  I'll eat lettuce.  I can't stomach gr beans, peas, squash, cooked carrots, spinach etc.  How much of an issue is it if you don't like veggies.  I know in past diet they would say eat all the veggies you want.  Well that's why I turned orange eating carrots.  I dont care for the taste, texture or the smell.  How much of an issue will this be?

It may depend which surgery you have but in general our diets are protein heavy. I eat veggies because I like them and believe they are good for me but not because my surgery requires them.  The non-surgery diets emphasise veggies because they are (mostly) low cal but bulky so make us feel full. Feeling full is not a problem for most people after Wls.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

I had an RnY, and I eat primarily meat, poultry, dairy in the form of yogurt and cheese, and non starchy vegetables. I was only able to add non starchy vegetables in towards the end of my first year. Before that I had to concentrate on getting enough protein. I eat vegetables because I like them, but protein is still a priority.

I don't think your dislike of veggies is a problem.

I'm not sure which surgery you are looking into, but like Kate said, our diets are protein rich. There is one poster here who is a "meatatarian"-his words-and he seems to have been successful in losing weight and keeping it off. Maybe he'll give you some input.

I wouldn't sweat not being a veggie fan. As long as you stay away from processed foods, sugar, and a lot of starches, you won't have too much trouble, IMO.

I rarely have room for veggies now and, as a result, I love them even more than I used to because they're such a rare treat :D

Well then you have nothing to worry about!  Protein is your highest priority in the WLS game, not veggies.  They come second.

You are not required to ever eat another veggie, ever. All forms of WLS emphasize a protein-first 'diet', and of course you'll still require a certain amount of fats (essential fatty acids) every day. But veggies---not required.

You're not required to eat fruit, either. Since most fruit contains a lot of sugar, fruits need to be limited. If you don't like fruit, even better!

What's your relationship with grains? Grains are also not required, and best avoided.

I like most fruits.  Grains. Ahhh. Yeah. They are always calling me. Bread, bagels, pancakes.  When I was young I would ball bread and eat it.  Subway forget the meat give me the bread.  Same with pizza.  I hope after surgery that subsides.

Yeah, carbs, especially carbs from grains, are what got most of us fat in the first place. I suggest you start cutting out grains NOW, just to get an idea of what you'll have to do after surgery. I'm not saying you'll never be able to eat grains again---you will certainly be ABLE to. The question really is should you, and for most of us the answer is "not really."

I will say that since my DS nearly 11 years ago, it's a lot easier for me to resist bread, pasta, etc. since I'm free to eat all the protein and fat I can hold.
