He's afraid of sagging skin

My new husband loved my body when we first met, loved it when I was fat, and loves it now with saggy skin. The only thing he really lifts an eyebrow at is when I squish my belly around and make it "talk" to him. but that's just my personality and he's stuck with it.

I've lost close to 100 pounds, (all over really, no panus, but lots of relaxed fit skin IMHO). I was divorced 4 years before surgery so I can't speak to the husband thing.  But I've recently entered into my first real relationship post op. He never knew me fat and I was VERY concerned about what his reaction would be as I'm really self conscious about the "relaxed fit" skin. It has turned out to be a non-issue.  He thinks I'm beautiful so I'm trying to learn to accept HIS view as the RIGHT one!

Hi!  HI have lost around 113 lbs.  I do not have ANY sagging skin except for a little bit in my thighs. The thighs have just started to show sagging skin and when I told my fiancee that I wanted to have plastics to have it removed...he totally almost crashed the car because he had NEVER NOTICED.

As women, we are so much harder on ourselves than our men are.

My nurse practioner told me that it is hard to determine who will have sagging skin and who wont.  She felt that unreliable (but better than nothing) predictors included age (i.e. I was 38 so my "young" skin is more likely to snap back), whether one exercises (I did. She muttered something about exercise and microcapillaries..but I cant find any scientific proof of this), HOW obese they are (I was a light weight) and how long one was obese.

But seriously, dont put off surgery over something as stupid as skin. You may be like me...LUCKY.

I have had VGB IN 10/2011, & lost 180 pounds. My husband was exceptionally supportive during the entire process. He was my biggest cheerleader!

You may want to have your significant other to speak with others in the same situation, who are watching their SO going through this process. He may also be worried that the weight loss will change you, and damage your relationship!

The sagging skin bothered my much more than it did him. After we relocated from NY  to NC, I found a plastic surgeon. I started the body contouring process in April, with a circumferential lower  body lift which tookoff 30 pounds. In July I had lipo of both legs and thighs to prepare for excess shin removal and on Oct31, had vertical thigh lift.

I started off this journey wearing a size 32, one I am a size 12!

i didn't t set a goal for myself at the beginning, but the pounds just kept coming off. I also opted for the plastic surgery because of a newly realized Vera that if l

i left all that excess skin, I would be inclined to fill it again with fat!

No, as long as they are healthy, try to concentrate on that first. The other is maybe the SO needs more explanation on the sagging skin issue, so that they are reassured?

Changing to a new blog. Please investigate your surgeon. Ask specific questions on after care, practice philosophies, office staff, nutrition, supplements, etc.

I am 11 years post op - Gastric bypass

Just wanted to say I have had every kind of reconstructive skin removal surgery possible, after the loss of 155. It is not perfect. although the loose and hanging skin is gone, there remains much cellulite and laxity of skin where this skin no longer has the firmness it once had.  Key here is everyone is different.

...that being said, I always tell my support group attendees that I learned if you have a good relationship before the surgery, it will only become better afterward, as you make your way to better health.  However, if your relationship with your significant other has been peppered with verbal skirmishes or out right arguments, things tend to get worse!  Not encouraging, I know, but this seems to be the reality of it all.  Above all, remember this is about YOU - and everyone of us is different, though we have the common struggle to share!

For some spouses is brings up a lot of insecurity that once you lose weight and look great you may want to leave him. Even as irrational as that sounds, it is a fear of some. See the surgery through- he will come around, especially once you start moving better and start living life again.
